Hi,
I haven't own a DVD drive before and i know nothing about dvd+/-R ram, RW blah blah blah..

I am looking for a dvd writer that could burn PS2 dvd... actually what PS2 disc uses? -R or +R?

burn DVD movies...

and which disc i should use the most for best video quality?
and a drive also to burn cd for musics. I already have an AOPEN 52x cd burner..

now i want to find a decent in performance but a cheap dvd writer.

I heard that Lite-ON is selling its 1633S for $86 in newegg. will this drive do all the jobs i mentioned above?

or any other drives?

oh which disc/media should i get too? will DVD+R do all the jobs correctly?(PS2, movies, DVDrip)

Thanks

I think that PS2 backups need to be DVD-R, but you'll have to verify that.

Choosing between DVD-R and DVD+R has nothing to do with quality (they have the exact same capacity), and you need to choose the one that provides compatibility with your desktop DVD players.

Personally, I prefer DVD+R for the higher burning speeds and my Lite-on 811S drive supports bitsetting. Bitsetting finalizes the disc so it's the same as a DVD-ROM, which provides the best all-around compatibility.

I'd recommend getting a dual format burner that can burn on DVD-R, +R, -RW, and +RW, and Lite-on, NEC, Plextor all make good drives. Note thought, that not every drive supports bitsetting.

PS2 can recognize +R and -R, whether it be movies or games..I've done both. I haven't burned a single coaster with my NEC2500A.

can i just buy DVD+R for all the things i want to burn on DVD?

like movies, backup, ps2 games?
cuz i see +R disc is faster and cheaper...

Faye, you can buy DVD+R and burn away until your heart's content.

But, until you verify that your PS2 and desktop DVD players are compatible with and can read DVD+R, then who knows? My old Apex DVD player would read everything except DVD+R. Granted, most of the newer PS2 and DVD players read +R fine, but it's still a crapshoot.
