A dozen users accessing a DOS application

Does it need faster disk speed or proc or memory or network? It's just a file that sits on a server and everyone accesses it at the same time.

would it really matter? dos apps are so small, most are loaded totallly into memory right? most anything would work, unless u got some kind of beastly dos program. i haven't used dos for a long long time🙂

my guess is the most important factor would be the memory (as long as you have 1 mb, you're fine )

It is a DB app.

By file system you mean Disk IO?

:thumbsup: in 2 sticks for dual channel 😉

But seriously, some old DOS extender apps could use up to 16 MB of RAM, in 4 sticks for quad channel goodness. This requires at least a 386 processor though.

Disk I/O and possibly network speed are the most likely bottlenecks, unless you really are using a 386.

Dos is a realtime os it doesn't multitask well, for something like your describing I mean like Disk I/O and the file system ie like fat 16/32 you need a good filesystem or some means of backup to correct file coruption as this is alot more common w/out a journaling file system like NTFS
