A documentary on Helvetica you say?

It's pretty famous/popular. I don't get the Helvetica love. I think it's bland and ordinary.

I don't get helvetica either. personally I'm fond of palatino. If i'm not using computer modern, i'm using palatino.

Palatino's nice. A couple of my current favorites are Linux Biolinum(fairly normal), and Averia(kinda odd). I like Ubuntu Mono for my terminal font...

Decent documentary; it covers design overall and touches on some cool stuff. Certainly a good looking doc.

I watched it years ago and actually enjoyed it. I don't remember what brought it to my attention back then though.

I watched that a couple of months ago. I thought it was pretty interesting. Fonts are more important than people realize.

This is what text should look like on the computing machine display!

And this is what it should look like on paper.

You should check out Fira Sans. It's the typeface Mozilla developed for Firefox OS, and it has a really nice monospaced variant that I've been using in my console and IDE for a while now. Bonus: It's libre. 😉

They are. I think the availability of lots of fonts and the willingness of early Mac users to employ them with abandon did more to damage the Mac's reputation among "serious users" than anything about the computer itself. I recall reading papers by Mac users that looked like ransom notes with all the font changes.

Patent troll?

Us or them?

We weren't trolling, it was about using an unusual bacterial species as a platform for recombinant protein engineering and production.

Maybe they were trolling I don't know. Some our stuff was accepted, some rejected. Not sure they were so picky on the rejections, considering so much shit gets patented. Maybe we just got the wrong agent on a hangover Monday, hard to say.

Been on a Trebuchet kick myself. It just looks so crisp and professional on web pages.

My company's standard font is Verdana, because our company's president is an engineer and he's one of those "The font was created for the web, so it's 100% optimized!" type of people.
