A disturbing State of the Union speech

Throughout the State of the Union speech this evening, I sat apalled of what I was viewing. The longer it went, the more disgusted I became. I certainly had no beef with the words of President Bush, who gave a very politically commanding and commendable speech, but my beef was with the Democrats sitting on left. Not only is their location in the chamber ironic (intended?), but also the location of their butts and hands. They really were sitting. Rarely clapping or giving standing ovations... certainly understandable for some issues they traditionally oppose, but even to even common sense statements made by the President!

I could not help but shake my head in disbelief with a rather warm and comical feeling of awe at how incompetent most Democrats at the event tonight really are. On touching such policies and initiatives such as the consequences of eliminating tax cuts, keeping social security alive, liberating two countries from oppressive regimes and instilling sovereign democracy, the sanctity of marriage, helping senior citizens with healthcare and ensuring that no child is left behind academically, Democrats sat on their asses with nary a twitch during times when the rest of the chamber were on their feet in supportive applause. Oh, excuse me, Ted Kennedy did actually twitch in disgust and shake his head the entire time- I forgot that part. And Hillary did her traditional "yeah whatever" sarcastic presentation of standing slowly, and clapping slower. These actions tell Americans and other viewers that Democrats are against such policies. For attempts at positive PR on international television, Democrats certainly are continuing to make fools of themselves, even when they know they're in the limelight. Immature booing and rolling of eyes on-camera are not only unprofessional, but disgraceful to the process and the speaker.

It's no wonder that with such displays of incompetence that so many Americans are seeing through the bullshit and standing behind The Republican Party more and more every day. Such disregard and pessimism by the leftists for even the most obvious virtues of American life is not helping their chances come this November in elections across the board. Whether it is because they suffer from ignorance or they are just acting as-is because of their hate for President Bush, neither reason nor excuse is justified. Until Democrats shape up their behavior, the GOP is going to rock hard for years to come. Obviously.

Oh please. The opposition party has done it in every state of the union for decades.

This post further shows the "sissification" of Republicans. They whine and moan about Democrats playing political hardball, and can't stand dissent. Thomas Jefferson said that dissent is patriotic, and I'd rather take his words to heart than a whiny, nancy boy Repug's...

I'm with you up to that point. After that, well I hope you and King George are very happy together, because I'd suggest you must have your lips permanently attached to his posterior.

Perhaps if you had listened to his words instead of worrying about the Dems' reaction you would have noticed how much bovine excrement was pouring from his lips. What a joke. A very, very bad joke.

LOL, excellent response.

To the original poster, you almost seem shocked at the reaction of the democrats. Not everybody agrees with what the President is doing. Maybe you should respect that, instead of defiling it.

It's politics - learn to live with it or help change it.:) The SoTU is mainly a political show - always has been, always will be. Lots of talk - lots of vision, but the real work happens when the votes are made in Congress.

To those of you who wish to yammer on and on about animal excrement or blast the OP about expressing his view(angst) - you best look at yourself first. Make sure YOU are putting YOU first - not some party or slick politician.

This country is built on YOU, but first and foremost - you must know who YOU are and what YOU think. We can all be against something - that's the easiest thing to be, but to be FOR something or some set of ideals takes strength. Strength that will be tested by the sayers of nay. The disillusioned love to help others become so too and thrive on bringing others into their pity pits. It takes a strong person to have faith; faith that what you believe in is real and just, faith that your participation matters, and faith that by professing your beliefs you can help shape and form America.

<steps from soap box>

Now back to your regularly scheduled bickering:)

I remember watching the State of the Union just a few years ago when it was the Repubs that were sitting the whole thing, not matter what Clinton said. I don't remember ever seeing any repubs clapping in that Address.

From foreign workers...because that's where all the income is going.

Our country for both good and bad has went through some changes for sure. But this is the one thing that hurts the most is so many people have lost jobs and continue to lose them. Under this administration we have had the largest amount of lost jobs since the depression. I know a lot has happened, but they have done nothing but turn the other way. Despite all the overblown hoopla of the recovering economy is the fact that its not translating into people here in this country getting jobs. And thats what really concerns me, coupled with the fact they have little to no success in being able to turn it around. All these other countries are benefiting but here we suffer more and more lost. Its like robbing from Peter to pay Paul.

Let me first say this....I support our president.

President Bush, The Congress and the rest of the country had its destiny forever altered on 9-11-01...the same as it was 12-7-1941. We can no longer and sit idly by as terrorists work around the world.

When the Dems say that the president has failed in the war on terror completely destroys their credibility. To say improvements can be made and to offer solutions would give me cause to give them respect.

The Dems dont like the new medicare plan, yet what do they propose.
The Dems dont like the presidents education plan, what do they propose.
The Dems done like anything the president is doing, what do the propose.
Many of the candidates are in a position right now to fix things as US Senators...they should get to work doing the peoples business.

Oh and Brokaw really made Clark look like a fool tonight

Yes, because guys like Karl Rove and Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter exemplify the epitome of class and integrity and righteousness.

I'd suspect you'd sit on your hands too if you realize what it means to have the prez whore out the country for corp and special interest dollars while sugar-coating the country's deficit and questionable safety.

BTW - Good Post Cad

They all have detailed policy proposals on their websites, and they regularly give an overview in their stump speech. Also, if you think the Democratic Senators can do anything substantive right now, you don't know how the Hill works.

SC was just short of electing a corpse while MO essentially did.

When the Dems say that the president has failed in the war on terror completely destroys their credibility.
Bush's statements about Iraq and Afghanistan were half-truths at best. Al Qaeda is indeed regrouping and if I'm not mistaken Osama bin Laden is apparently taboo in the Bush administration. The festering unrest throughout the Muslim world has INCREASED during Bush's watch and considering this is the primary current source of terrorism . . . Bush's war on terrorism can be approriately described as a failure . . . albeit not a total failure.

The Dems dont like the new medicare plan, yet what do they propose.
Hmm well Paul O'Neill suggested using surplus dollars to shore up Medicare/SS while making significant structural changes. Bush's plan subsidizes insurance companies and Big Pharma . . . while pretending the coming storm will magically dissipate before bankrupting America.

The Dems dont like the presidents education plan, what do they propose.
Hmm actual education reform instead of testing regime. School choice doesn't work if all the schools have similar problems (which is often the case). School choice/vouchers do not work if good schools are full (which is always the case). Supplemental resources essentially provides funds for activities that many states are already doing but instead of giving it to localities it's given to Sylvan, Kaplan, or Neil Bush's testing service. Of course, in the absence actual funding . . . it's just rhetoric and unfunded mandates. But if you want a real assessment . . . ask Secretary Paige (DOE) how he reformed Houston's schools . . . fitting that such an achievement took place in Enron's hometown.

The Dems done like anything the president is doing, what do the propose.
I think they would like this to be his final SOTU.

Democratic members of Congress regularly write new laws, and they're all ignored/passed up by the Republican leadership. You do know that our political system is winner take all?

If what Bush said last year about Iraq were half-truths how come the UN didn't lift the sanctions in the mid-90s? Why did the US maintain a no fly zone? Why did regime change for Iraq become US policy in the late 90's? Why does President Clinton maintain the info on Iraq being true. Why has Gen. Clark all of a sudden change his tune on Iraq now that he is in politics? What about the terrorist attacks that Iraq was planning on the US just weeks before started the war but Navy Seals prevented? Why did the dems authorize war? Many dems have full access to docs that CIA provides to the president.
