Nah, not hard to put HS/F on CPU, just take your time and be sure it is seated correctly. Here are the instructions from the Arctic Silver website. Have Fun!!

I just talked to my friend, he said the retail version of CPUs comes with a fan that's already had thermal paste on it, is that true for the new Pentium 4's? If he's talking about thermal pad, is there any way I can get a P4 3.0ghz with the pad?(I don't really want to deal with that headache...) Most said the pad is not as good as the paste, so how much temperature difference will the two have?

give or take 2-3 degrees... not sure. it's not biggie... but i'd sleep easier knowing that a quality thermal paste is between my brand spanking new cpu and my heatsink. :D

Cool, so now I'll go with the one with a thermal pad. I've checked the pentium 4's(not the 800mhz fsb ones) but none of them have any mention that they have a thermal pad on their fan! Does this mean Intel don't make cpus with pads!? Then I'll need to get an OEM cpu then find a good heatsink with a pad myself? No?

You need to read more, and I am sorry, but it sounds like you didn't understand most of the posts.... Please have someone help you with this before you make a big mistake.

dude, megacharger, you're just like me. I just finished building my first pc today. I went the AMD route however. I researched for a while, talked to people who knew what they were talking about, got a good general guide from motherboards.org, gave myself a full day and did it. I had very few problems. The heatsink was tough to get on (I was wafraid I'd break the CPU) and the first time, my HD wasn't recognized. Other then that it went smoothly and was a lot of fun. Oh and newegg is great.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Radeon 9700 Pro
Lite on CD-RW and DVD-ROM

some other stuff I just dont feel liek typing anymore.

good luck, and if you have any questions just ask

If you buy a retail packaged Intel processor it will come with a good heatsink/fan and the thermal pad. It also will come with instructions.

So just make sure you get the retail version, Newegg includes this information in the description of the processor.

Ok thanks guys! I think as far as the hardware part I'm now almost set, I'll come back to ask for help should I encounter problems during the building process :) Once again, a big thanks!

Hehe, they'll lower their price, but never match. I don't get it. Also, if you ever get parts from there again, try and become quote on quote friends with them. Then at the end, they sometimes round everything down to the nearest $10. That happened for me back when I built my P4 1.7ghz computer. I've never really liked Microx-press at all, atleast here in Indy. Insiduos, btw, I happen to go to the school where the shop owner's sons go. I've tried seeing if they could get me discounts but they really don't care about it. I asked the younger of the two if I could get some parts with a discount, he said he'd ask, and when he did his dad said no. I get the feeling he didn't even ask. I thought those kids would be ones who learned a lot from their father, yes I was right, atleast for knowing about computers. The younger one tries to hide it back in 8th grade but they've always taken on the 'thuggy' role.
