Hardware wise, it looks fine. Cables right spots and such.

This is one of those builtin video cards and the DVD encoder might be software.

I stuck in the DVD and it would not play in the program.

1) Reinstall the DVD software
2) Have the resolution at 800x600 and 16 bit color *NO MORE*
3) Reinstall video drivers
4) Verify that no other DVD software has been installed, such as PC Friendly. PC Friendly comes on alot of DVD discs and does NOT get along with Dell's DVD player at all.

What program did you use? With my first DVD experience I found that some software players would not work on my system, so just try a few and you'll probably find one that works. PowerDVD 2.55 is the best out there in my opinion. Also you might want to check the region code on your DVD ROM; it might be incompatible with the DVDs your playing. If so you may be able to change the code with a program called DVD Genie... hope this helps

1) Get a few buddies together, Fly to the Dell headquarters
2) Build some sort of catapulting device
3) Have a few beers
4) Set it up in the parklinglot
5) Cover the machine in some sort of sticky, flamable substance
6) Light
7) Hurl it through the largest window you can find, while dancing around chanting "AMD! AMD! AMD!"

:)

Call Dell's technical support and sit on hold for an hour and a half to speak to some tech who is just reading from some cute little instruction manual that some 2 year old wrote for pre-pre-school. (I have a high opinion of Dell tech support ;)

Castellan,

Do you work there or have you just talked to the guys from Tennessee???

I swear their support for home systems has gone straight into the crapper... mass outsourcing is blatant.

One of my brother's buddies tried to play "Any Given Sunday" on a Dell, too, and it refused to play. Dell's DVD player just doesn't support all of the propriety DVD formats out there. To tell you the truth, nobody's will.
