A dear friend of mine has lost his mother :(

She passed away yesterday of lung cancer. She smoked 2-3 packs a day for 40 years and it finally caught up with her. I feel awful, obviously more out of concern for him (my friend) than anything. Normally he seems to just be tough about things, but, according to a mutual friend of ours, he's not taking this very well. And understandably so, high school's no time to be burying your parents. 🙁

Worst thing is, I can't even talk to him. He apparently tried to call me last night, and I wasn't there for him...I wasn't home, and this morning he left for Pittsburgh (I'm not sure why, it's his mother's hometown so she might be being buried there).

So I still haven't talked to him. His dad is still a heavy smoker, I hope this convinces him to quit. My friend has always been socially a little odd, I really hope he pulls through this ok...

Hey man, I'm sorry to hear that. Goes to show the dangers of smoking, so don't do it guys.

When my uncle passed away, he told me beforehand, "I'm never gone until you forget me." That stands true even today.

Peace,

I still haven't heard from him. 🙁 I bought a sympathy card today...man it was hard to think of what to write...what can you say to that? Especially since I have been lucky enough to never lose a member of my immediate family. Funny thing is, a week ago if you had asked me about his mother, I wouldn't have had much to say, she didn't seem to be a big person in my life...and she really wasn't. But today, I kept remembering different occasions...playing piano for her, exchanging golf tips, and just stupid things like her driving my friend and i around when we were younger...god I wish he'd call me...

<< 2-3 packs a day = :Q = 🙁 >>

yep, that's what smoking does to people. My grandfather died at the age of 69 because of smoking and it devastated my mom, it was really sad. 🙁
