rang out, and the denizens of Anandtech knew Arithorn was having serious problems. For starters, after installing his spiffy new 1.33 tbird and assembling the rest of his machine, everything worked fine. He installed the drivers for his new Geforce2, his Epox 8k7A cd drivers, and his cool glowing Microsoft Intellimouse, which finally worked in his USB port. But, after he restarted, suddenly his glowing mouse no longer glowed. His pointer did not move. He heard no start-up sound. And his Mitsumi Cd-RW and Toshiba DVD drives were not detected. AT ALL! So here sat Arithorn, with

1.) Both CD drives not working - worked before restarting system, now not detected by windows (as in no entry in Explorer)
2.) Intellimouse not working, at all.

So, Arithorn decided he needed real help - the free kind, so he came to Anand. Please help him!

PS. I've tried restarting, guys, yes the CD drives are Master/Slave, no, I didn't do anything except install a few drivers, and yes, the CD drives do work in DOS. AAAARARGGH!

Sorry, 4in1 via? I installed the USB driver - the one for the two extra USB ports that are packaged with the epox.

I installed a bunch of drivers, opting not to restart after each one... figuring I'd save time and just restart after installing most of em. Direct X forced a restart, and when it came back on no CD drives. RRR.. and I can't get on the net on that computer, so if the file is over 1.4mb I can't port it over, and the network card isn't being detected either.

Do you guys think I should just reinstall windows or something? This is really so frustrating... I don't have a mouse working, or cd drives

Did you reset the Bios? Either in the bios itself or by taking out the battery?

Also, maybe try a barebones setup by putting each piece one at a time to see which specific one might be giving troubles? Tried swapping IDE cables, they might be bad?

Are both the cd drive jumpers set as masters? Could be a problem there.

Does BIOS detect them when the computer is initially booting up? It should list them there on the screen before DOS even takes over. If they aren't there, then the cable's loose, something's not getting power, or else they are not configured as master/slave correctly.

well, since you just built this bad boy (and i'm assuming you don't have too many of your own files on there), i'd be mighty tempted to say screw it and just reinstall.
