My girlfriend is a manager for a large chain that has national coverage. I will not dislcose any other information at this time so don't ask but this is a very large company. Head office called all store managers yesterday and informed them that anyone who did not show up for work on Monday that was scheduled and anyone who walked off the job were to be terminated immediately upon return. There are no exceptions and this has nothing to do with race, creed, or color. All will be terminated.

Also, they should terminate illegals anyways, even if they don't walk off the job.

This covers anyone who supports this cause and plans to protest. Sometimes it is hard to tell if you have an illegal working for you. If you are truly sick and have a doctor to back you up I do not think it will be a problem.

It would actually be amazing how fast things would simply balance out but the pro-illegals don't want you to know that. The savings from what they steal from welfare/medical care/education for their kids would more than make up for any increase in costs of goods. Plus the legal labor that would replace them would make more money so the slightly higher prices would not be as big an issue. Illegals are a NET drain on our economy and country if you factor in everything. Any increase in prices resulting from their leaving would be well worth the other benefits.

You know, this is the only second thread on this topic in which I've posted. Instead, I've stuck to reading what you people have to say about this, and the vast majority of what I've read has been xenophobic tripe. Steeplerot posted some funny anti-immigration posters from the early 20th century in another thread, and all I could think was "the more things change, the more they stay the same"...

Jobs in the meat packing plants used to be some of the highest paying jobs around. Since you have first hand knowledge I'd like to ask you a question. Did Americans just walk away from high paying jobs in the meat packing industry or did ILLEGALS ruin the jobs by coming in and doing them for less?

And though I consider myself on the fence on this issue, seems like a good bulk of those bashing illegal immigration are doing so in the name of stealing from social welfare programs. Can anyone give me unbiased projections of how much better off we'd be financially if they were inhibited from partaking in these services? I mean, we're already in, what $8 trillion debt that is climbing ever higher and higher due to the sh!thole in Iraq? I think if people want to start b!tcing about the money aspect of illegal immigration, then they need to start opening their eyes to the bigger things that are tearing this country apart financially.

This is in a town (Dumas, TX) with a population of roughly 14,000. There are two refinerys, and a meat packing plant. Valero runs the refinerys, and pays even better than Swift's $9 to $12 (IIRC)/hour. But in Dumas most of the kids are leaving for school, or just to escape small town life. To answer your question as honestly as I can, I'd say the Americans are walking away, mainly to get educations, and as I mentioned to escape the dull small town life. I'd also like to add that Valero has much stricter hiring practices than Swift does. The reason I know all this is my father was a personal manager for Swift (Monfort, Excel, or whoever owns that plant this week), and later Valero for many many years.

EDIT: There is also an arrogance amongst the youth that they'd "NEVER set foot in that (Swift) place." Sooner or later the migrant workers will be the only ones there. Also the $9 to $12/hour is for non-management. Management makes quite a bit more.
