A Day in the life of Joe Republican

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer?s medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe?s bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.
Joe?s employer pays these standards because Joe?s employer doesn?t want his employees to call the union.
If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he?ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn?t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe?s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe?s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers? Home Administration because bankers didn?t want to make rural loans. The house didn?t have electricity until some big-government liberal (FDR) stuck his nose where it didn?t belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, quiche-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn?t have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn?t mention that Republicans fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: ?We don?t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I?m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.?

I got this from a friend by email. I don't know its origin.

Replace liberal with leftist and you might get that a bit more accurate.
...and that fictional Joe Republican has it quite nice. What Utopia is that supposed to be that he lives in?

yep, liberals are now completely useless because allmost all of the most important reforms in our society have been under taken.

anyone want to repeal the use full consumer safety issues? does anyone think that medical benefits don't help the bottom line? 'cmon who's honestly against the new deal?

now, some of the LBJ great-society programs are highly questionable, if not intentionaly racist;

I think we're all liberals now, the only question left is: do we throw out personal responsibility and freedom of political speech because we all wanted safe drinking water?

i'm going to say no.

which is why i'm a long-haired-hippy-wackjob-libbie-republcian.

LMK:

Interesting take.

So, instead of aligning with the people who made your life liveable you want to align yourself with the people who are determined to make your life miserable?

nope, i feel the republican party is that of the people. A truly populist party. Something that the democrats lost long ago but could have reclaimed if they followed the path of the words of bill Clinton and the example of Joe liberman.

And if you look at the congress and senate, you'd see the people agree.

No one want's dirty water or unsafe merchandise, but all the issues you've spoken of in your email re post are not the solitary domain of the democratic party.

bush has even stolen education from the liberals, and will soon steal the black-vote along with it if the democrats don't start supporting the good-idea of school choice.

bush is a strong moderate leader, he's a moral conservative... but when it comes down to it, the moral aspects arn't very important to any voter that hasn't already made up his mind for the 08 election.

And the government takes taxes out of Joe's paycheck and funds programs so all those liberals mentioned above can live off the dole and persue their pet causes all day long...

Do you have a 10 year old joke book with you today or something?

Someone needs to do this for religious zealots too. Take someone who doesn't accept the scientific method or evolution but who consistantly benefit from its uses throughout the day.

Hey, kind of like denying Joe's contribution to the tax pool.

Fantasyland?

Look, this is just cheap liberal propaganda... hell, it barely even passes for that.

No, the simple-minded think they're really creative when they edit other people's posts or say things like "denial is not a river in Egypt".

Get some new material. Liberals were put here to amuse the rest of us, and you are failing to fulfill your duties.

John Kerry knows where that river is. Let me tell you, he traversed it one fine Christmas morning in his Swiftboat and machine gunned VC in the back by the hundreds while tossing medals and ribbons about like beads at Mardi Gras...

Conservatives have made much bigger contributions than just paying taxes. Some have even worked with the "hated" Liberals to make some of the afore mentioned benefits to American Society reality!

It's not really Joe's money, which is why the gov't is supposed to take it, or force him to 'invest' it in Ponzi schemes like Social Security.

Now THAT was funny.

Why It's Great to be a Democrat (Funny Read!)

Why It is great to be a Democrat

1. I get to pay $2.20 a gallon for gas. What a privilege it is to save a seal and not have the extra money to send my son to college.

2. I don't have to live with my consequences of having sex, I can kill the unborn.

3. I get to pay higher taxes to the tax this and tax that government. (I love to do this.)

4. I get to give my tax dollars to those who are to lazy to put forth the extra effort it takes this day and time to succeed so they can live as I do. (GO TO WORK. I DID.)

5. I get to watch a 4.0 student not get into college because he is white. (We democrats love the double standard.)

6. I love saving one tree so thousands can burn.

7. I can sue anyone who says things I do not like or does not agree with my beliefs. (Give me democratic jury and I can be rich.)

8. It is of the greatest honor and privilege that I can not allow freedom of speech and religion under the pretext that I do.

9. I can act as though I care about the horrendous acts portrayed against others as long as I do not have to do what it takes to prevent it. (I WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THOUSANDS ARE MURDERED OR GO HUNGRY AND THEN SCREAM I TOLD YOU SO OR ASK WHY YOU REPUBLICANS WHY YOU DID NOT STOP IT.)

10. I can pick what is offensive to others and tell them how to live.

11. I can take on the businesses of the world in the name of others and make sure prices go up and no one can afford to eat unless I give them my tax dollars. ISN'T SOCIALISM IS GREAT?

12. I THINK IT IS ALRIGHT FOR PEOPLE TO SNEAK IN AND BLOW UP MY COUNTRY AS LONG AS WE DO NOT INFRINGE ON THEIR RIGHTS AS THEY DO IT.

13. My president can have sex with anyone but his wife. He can lie to me. He can disgrace my country and I will support him.

14. I can raise hell at anyone that does not want to help a country (Africa) that infringes on someone rights by taking his land because he is white. I want to send my tax dollar to help a country that infringes on someone's rights because of color.

15. I love the fact that my party has almost single handily destroyed the family unit by treating kids as if they are capable of acting as adults and deserve to be treated as my equal.

As you can tell, I'm not really a Democrat, and I can't understand why anyone is. If you believe in freedom, integrity, and justice, then you will vote Republican on Nov. 5th. And don't forget to read the Liberal Creed below.

Liberal Creed

1. You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

2. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat, than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the earth's climate, and more affected by yuppies driving SUVs.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.

7. You have to be against capital punishment but support abortion on demand.

8. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who've never been outside of Seattle do.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad, because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, General Robert E. Lee, or Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides aren't.

16. You have to believe Hillary Clinton is really a lady.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried, is because the right people haven't been in charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and sex offender belongs in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites and bestiality should be constitutionally protected and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese is somehow in the best interest of the United States.

21. You have to believe that this letter is part of a vast right wing conspiracy.

Democrats: people who are naive enough to believe rich white guys who tell them that rich white guys are the problem.

...and since we're shamelessly plugging parties here...

It's old material, but I'll follow Red Dawn's lead and recycle:

Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

* The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing
* The fifth man would pay $1
* The sixth man would pay $3
* The seventh $7
* The eighth $12
* The ninth $18
* The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they all decided to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now, dinner for the ten only cost $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so everyone would get his "fair share?" The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth and sixth men would each end up being "paid" to eat their meal.

They decided to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and they proceeded to work out the amounts each would pay. And so:

* The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings)
* The sixth man now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings)
* The seventh man now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings)
* The eighth man now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)
* The ninth man now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings)
* The tenth man now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings)

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth. "But, he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"

"That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I only got $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night, the tenth man didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for half the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists, college professors, and celebrities, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore. There are lots of good restaurants in Europe and the Caribbean.

First of all I'm not a Liberal and secondly why would I waste any creativity on the likes of you, a relatively new member recruited by other Right Wing Members of AT to shore up their numbers?

I do apologize though for upsetting you. I felt my post were just off the cuff comments that would have garnered a smirk at best from you. If I had known it was going to extract such a reaction that would take away from the discussion of the topic I would have refrained from making them.
