If it isn't RWD, it's boring and bad. There's no reason to buy a FWD car. I don't understand the obsession. I like how even in this video the person that says they don't know anything about cars says it can only be a Japanese car. Deep deep ignorance is annoying. Does somebody offer a cheap RWD car again? It's cheaper and better. I don't fucking get people that are obsessed with buying things that are worse. You don't have to buy a Ferrari, I get it. You don't have to pound nails into your dick with a FWD car either.

We've had members who were banned for the sort of vulgarity that you have in your final sentence. Consider this your 2nd warning.

It really needed about 20 different people giving advice though, with them arguing with each other over everything.

RWD isn't cheaper. If it was, no one would make FWD cars.

Just like the idiot in the "video", your listening skills suck.

Never was it said it had to be a Japanese car.....the comment made was "I think she prefers a Japanese car."

But, he's asking for advice and seems quite open to any brand/origin/etc., just not the stupidity of the typical "know-it-all" car "experts", which seems to include you, who cannot comprehend or fathom anyone would want an appliance that simply gets her from Point A to Point B with a minimum of fuss, maintenance, and drama.

So, you're that guy huh?

Around since the 1920's, front wheel drive didn't catch on with American consumers until the gas crisis in the 1970's. As Americans struggled against high fuel prices, automakers began to seek new ways to increase fuel efficiency. The best way of course was to reduce the size (and thus the weight) of most vehicles. As Detroit aimed to make cars smaller, they needed a more efficient layout that would yield more interior room in a smaller package.

Front wheel drive was the solution. By placing the engine and transaxle in the front, there is no large transmission housing or driveshaft tunnel running through the passenger compartment. In addition, engines were positioned transversely to reduce the size of the engine bay. And there was another advantage as well. With 60% of its weight at the front, 40% at the back, fwd holds an advantage in slippery conditions such as ice or snow as more weight is over the drive wheels reducing slip during acceleration.

There is nothing wrong with FWD cars, I currently own one myself. One of the best cars I've ever driven in the snow was a FWD SAAB 99...one of the worst was a big American RWD coupe.

Scary accurate video.
Look at the thread we have about which truck to buy. People are saying stupid shit like don't buy a Honda Ridgeline because it's not a real truck, despite the fact that it's rated for 5000 lbs towing while a Toyota Tacoma is rated for 3500, a Ford Ranger is rated for about 2500, Chevy Silverado is 4700, Dodge Dakota is 3200. Oh and it has wrong wheel drive. Real trucks are RWD only, but this abomination is AWD! There's no way a truck can pull or haul anything with AWD. (A Dodge Caravan is front wheel but it has greater towing capacity than a Dodge Dakota)

If it isn't RWD, it's boring and bad. There's no reason to buy a FWD car. I don't understand the obsession.
You said it man. FWD is totally stupid and it doesn't work. Why would any retard try to pull things like a boat with a minivan? It's all a conspiracy. These companies like Ford and Dodge and Toyota are just making up random numbers. Obviously they only tested if it can haul a standard size fiberglass boat that many families have. They should have tried hauling a trailer full of cattle. People who buy anything less than a RWD Ram 3500 should be killed.

I've heard almost every single argument on that thing used here in the AT Garage.
<unnamed German company> makes very reliable cars. All you need to do is fix it every time it fucks up. Yer stupid for not knowing how to replace your own oxygen sensors. Everyone knows this.

About the cost thing, there was a thread where aphex (?) wanted a car or suv or something under 20k. fleabag suggested buying a 2010 Prius with the nav package, which is more than 50% higher than the OP's budget.

AT is pretty bad, but Something Awful is even worse. A guy will ask what kind of minivan to buy for his family of 5 people, and people will tell him to buy a Miata.

That video could've been funny if it had been done with real voices and not having Microsoft Bob read the lines.

Honda Ridgeline rated for 5000 lbs towing
I also said it didn't have a real frame. If you tried to pull 5000lbs with a Ridgeline, you'd probably end up leaving the trailer and part of the rear end behind, that is if the thing even has enough torque to start moving.

RWD isn't cheaper. If it was, no one would make FWD cars.

I'll meet you halfway and say that since they build FWD cars as crappy as possible, they do get made cheaper. If you made the same vehicle both ways though, you'd be able to use 50-100 year old tooling to pump out the drivetrains for the RWD ones. In theory you'd be saving money.

I like how the people that tried to pick me apart didn't attack me head on at all. One guy said RWD is worse because a heavy RWD car is heavier than a light FWD car. Nice job talking about something else and pretending it applies. Also a guy said a FWD minivan can tow, amazing. Did you think that a RWD minivan would tow better? Sorta shuts down your argument. Sowwy.

On the small and light issue, that is completely true. The original Mini was able to do some cool stuff because of how big it was made. However, FWD cars now have big fake tunnels in them to make them look sporty anyway. There's no room saving. My RWD car has a 350 in it and is smaller than any FWD bucket. Admittedly that's because people want ugly cars and overhead cams the size of a planet.
