Sexually transmitted would be the best, because it would weed out the unsettled, unsafe and unfaithful partners.

Look at you. Trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

There are some under-supply problems in certain areas because the population's moral and social structure is rotten to the core leading to chaos, economic instability, and discouragement of entrepreneurship.

People have been predicting overpopulation for decades and it's still not on the horizon.

Millions of dead people disagree with your assessment.

Ironically, infertility rates increase every year. Maybe a virus has already been released? Wait Mosh? Did you have a point to this thread? Do you know something we don't? What do you do for a living? Biochemist maybe? ;)

http://www.articlesnatch.com/Articl...tistics---Pregnancy-Issues-Information/703837

Around the globe, more than 90 million couples suffer from some type of infertility that prevents them from conceiving a child. In the US, there are 11 million of these couples alone. Infertility can affect both men and women, though most people tend to only focus on female infertility issues. In fact, about 40 percent of all infertility cases actually stem from male infertility.

Too bad there isn't a way to sterlize people through sound waves. Then we could engineer a way make it so rap and country music sterilized people if they listened for extended periods of time. :) just a thought.

who started this silly idea their is a population problem? What evidence is there for this?

but Hitler had this idea 70 years ago. He implemented it as well. Sterilizing anyone deemed to have any genetic defect. He believed it was the greatest gift he could give humanity. He also euthanized handicapped and made it illegal for pure blood Germans to even have sex with a jew or someone from inferior genetic stock.

But then it would miss Mormons and Catholics...two groups seriously in need of such a virus.:p

Then, the US could simply enact more stringent immigration laws...and kick out all non-citizens and any anchor babies they've had while living here. (although, I suppose, since the anchor babies are legally citizens, we couldn't make them leave...only their parents/non-citizen siblings. Hell, we could seriously reduce the US population with that...

Um I'm talking about a situation in which the US population was in too sharp a negative decline, due to the virus, and you needed to increase its population.

Instead of a dumb virus, I'd rather have some sort of nanobot virus that uploads statistics to a central database. It would then sterilize people based on percentages so that at any time a consistent blend of all types of genetic make up were present in the populace. That way the virus not only monitors population but also diversity.

You people seriously don't think we have population issues in the USA? You guys must live in Montana or something...

Uh... the USA doesn't have a population problem that is caused by the domestic people (People who were born and raised here). The number of people who are immigrating to the united states though is what drives the population numbers up along with those immigrants having children here.

Btw, we don't have an overpopulation problem... we have a corrupt government/system problem. i.e. we have a human rights problem. :p

Your solution sucks btw. It doesn't actually solve anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population_growth_rate

How to solve the "problem" for first world countries (bottom half of the lists): end tax breaks and other incentives to pop out kids. These were needed 200 years ago when a few colonists needed to secure the land from invaders, not so much any more.

Better sci-fi solution: Retro-virus which hardwires women to always have boy-girl twins and only conceive once. For the most part returns natural selection to the world; genetically flawed, weak or stupid children can't just be replaced. Just make sure it can be reversed whne the population starts falling or we go to colonize a new planet.

There isn't a "world population problem". There isn't even anything close to a "world population problem", the world is fairly sparsely populated and is not even close to taxing its food production capabilities. What we have is a problem with a few 3rd world countries with poor agriculture knowledge and even worse birth control knowledge spitting out more babies than they can feed. The funny thing about that problem is that if you do nothing about it, it goes away. No area can out-populate their resources long term, the population shrinks naturally when there isn't enough food to support it.
