The 8 inch howitzer was indeed mighty, but a maintenance nightmare. You would be far more comfortable in the Paladin.I remember replacing about half the PACs in the old 8 inch every time we went to Graf.. :Q
The old blockhouse still stands...![]()

I was in a m109 unit for a couple of years. They were more comfortable and faster, but they just didn't go boom as big as the old 8 inch.
We used to blow hydraulic hoses like crazy in those 8 inch units, especially when using white bag.

What would you normally use instead of white bag?

Green bag most of the time.

White bag is much hotter and faster burning. It gave greater range but was harder on equipment, especially the hydraullic lines and equillabrator. Displacement was unbelievable in those 8 inch howitzers, the spade would move back a couple of feet after shooting several dozen rounds of white bag.

Hey, if you are going to mention them in passing like that... you could at least explain, rather than tantalize

New question about white bag... about how much more range does it give you, in percentages?
