LOL, that reminds me of the movie 40 First Dates or something like that. And Drew Barrymore's brother always has wet dreams because he takes lots of protein shakes. :)

Is that true though?

He was doing steroids, which is a whole different ballgame. I normally have three protein shakes a day (normally a flat scoop in each one) It's not a meal replacement, but you do feel full for a few hours afterwards. Eating cookies before bed is a no-no, although since you are so emaciated it probably can't hurt, but you would do better eating more often during the day (5-6 smaller healthy meals) than gorging on cookies and junk food before bed...

Yeah, but I can't make burgers and fries at 11PM when everyone in my house is sleeping.

I'm quite against whey protein as a shake add-in. I make my smoothies with Soy Milk, Plain Yogurt, Flaxseed Meal, Wheat Germ, Unsweeted Cocoa, Bananas - all things that are high in nutritional value and are generally low in sugar. Many protein powder mixes have added sweeteners. And really.. do you need to add pure protein? Why not add something with a little fat, like flaxseed meal - it's much more likely to fill you than a protein powder.

They certainly don't fill me up; you'll have to eat something else along with 'em.

Oh yes - and the gas. It'll give you lots of gas.

Whole grain foods, for instance, are more filling and when coupled with fruits and vegetables (around 75% of the food I eat is fruits and veggies) can fill you up. Foods naturally high in protein, but low in saturated fat, like lean cuts of beef or chicken, fish, eggs (I eat tons of eggs) and soy are also good ways to feel full. Have 5 smaller meals a day rather than 3 or less larger meals, and don't go for more than 4 hours without eating. All of theses things together work for me, and I've lost about 20 lbs and gained a lot of muscle in the past 7 months without feeling hungry all of the time. I'm 5' 11" and 190 lbs, FYI.

Oh, and I would recommend working out every other day for at least 40 minutes, unless you are fairly active. Judging by your weight/height, you should be ok, but if you want to add some muscle, it couldn't hurt.

EDIT: Just so you know, I'm not an expert or anything, so I would recommend doing your own research. Never take anything someone posts in these forums (especially if it's not about computers) without a grain of salt ;) I'm just letting you know what I have found out and works for me.

While I'm certainly no expert, I have a fair amount of experience myself as well as a pretty solid basis in nutritional science and I can say you're mostly on the right track.

Vegetables are fabulous. Get a bag of carrots - eat as many as you want - I guarentee you'll get full and you'll get a lot of good stuff too. Beta-carotine, fiber. Just mix it up - don't eat the same thing all the time.

Don't be afraid to eat frequently, either.

So it COULD be bad for me. I heard that people get kidney stones from it. How much would I have to be eating for that to happen to me?

Make sure you match the extra protein with extra water - it'll help lessen the stresses on your body. Basically any time you eat a large amount of protein you should drink extra water for that reason.

USE THIS FORUM.

TIHS FORUM IS FOR PC'S.

KTHX./

I usually see anything but PC talk here... that's why it's called OT.

It's much better to have a protein shake before bed or a large glass of milk... instead of cookies or junk food. Plus you'll have cool dreams!

YMMV...I only had dreams about being gassy and dehydrated.

...and when I woke up, my pillow was gone!

what is this rumor? I have at least 1 whey shake a day and never remember my dreams...

Yeah, I was saying that I never have dreams...just gas

no - don't make a point of getting extra saturated fat - god knows you probably get more than you need, as it is. But consider mono-unsaturated fats as a good high-calorie nutrient, like nuts and nut butters. Almond, soy, peanut.. it's all good.

if ur gonna get the shake get one of those little shaker things or something to mix it up with mile. Otherwise its all nasty and chunky if you mix it with a spoon.

also its good to have if your working out, it helps supplement it and build muscle

may i also suggest protein bars, snickers marathon are good, 26g and they taste pretty good...

I am taking the EAS Muscle Armour prior to and after working out, 1- 16 oz cup, then after that I take 1 -16 oz cup of 100% whey. I only use the protein shakes if I get hungry inbetween plus I have some at work to. I am happy with my results so far. I only take the Whey and Muscle Armour if I work out otherwise I just have the protein shakes.
