isnt it that a 1M will fit completely in the L2 cache? Not really a good benchmark if that is the case... but a great OC and this makes it going to be a great year coming up

Even if Conroe didn't have a huge advantage over K8, I'd still buy it because of how well it overclcocks...thats a 50% overclock on a poorly designed cooler. Imagine a Scythe Ninja cooling that thing, might even make it to 3.5...

Not without a motherboard than can hit 1750mhz FSB..wonder what motherboard they were using, looks like a nice OC.

Common myth brewed by that rabid blogger Sharikou. Look at the PI being run, it clearly says using 8MB of allocated memory (1M = 1 million digits precision, not 1MB usage). Moreover, the 32M PI scales to about the same speed, and it uses 256MB memory.

I don't think any AMD fan can deny it, Conroe is faster than the X2.
Now the question is, go for the cheap 1.86Ghz 2mb cache or the more expensive 4mb cache?
Oh, and I thought the E6300 and E6400 (1.86Ghz and 2.13Ghz) only have 2mb cache and the E6600 and E6700 have 4mb cache, whereas that screenshot of CPU ID shows the E6400 as having 4mb cache?

Hey, if the benchmarks and the prices hold, I will have the E6700.

I'll most likely be springing for the slowest 4MB chip.

Well the new AMD CPUs coming out with the new socket better fix that then ;)

Well, I'm pretty much decided on a 2.13GHz, 2MB Cache Conroe right now...the only factor is the wait time...

I'm thinking a pair of the 2.33 LV woodcrests...

or maybe the 2.66s, then I can jump from 2.66 xeons to 2.66 xeons (prestonia > woodcrest). WHAT AN UPGRADE!

Wow, it takes my Opteron @ 2.75ghz 29 sec. to do that.

But the thing I don't get is, arn't all these benchmarks really speculation? How do I know that it's really a Conroe at 3ghz?

Well, I dont think you should doubt that it's a 3GHz conroe (some idiots do like lying but most people are honest enough), what you should doubt is what this score means. A 2GHz Yonah gets like 30 secs in superPi while a 2GHz X2 gets like 40. In most real-life situations, though, the X2 will beat Yonah (sometimes by a huge margin) and in the few situations that Yonah comes on top the difference is much lower than what superPi would suggest.

Heh, I'd doubt that. I think AMD will take a good beating...
