was just browsing the iriver site to see if there were any firmwware updates for my slimX and i see a new HD based player. lcd remote, fm tuner, real time mp3 encoding, mic recording, optical in and out are just some of the features that it has that arent on the ipod. after finally saving enough money for an ipod, i might actually think twice about this. anybody have any ideas on the price of the iriver?

product @ iriver site

iPod rules. The only thing i want to do with my MP3 player is to play MP3s (or AACs :)).

"Real-time MP3 encoding (no PC required)"
This is the part that interests me. If it will do real time encoding from a cd player it should bypass any copyright protection measures.

It would be the same thing as plugging in your discman to the line-in on your sound card and recording that way, wouldn't it?

iRiver customer support sucks, and I hope the company burns in the deepest depths of hell.

What are the dimensions/weight? It neglects to put that on the page.

No thanks. I'll just stick to my 32 mb player. That's fine for me since I only play the same 7 songs over and over again anyway.

wow that iriver looks nice, even has a Wired Remote with an LCD Display

So does the iPod ;)

i thought the remote didn't have an lcd
Correct. It's an LCD-less remote. Also, they made the cord for the remote 3 ft long...plus another 3 ft for the headphones...what the fvck was apple thinking? That's my only real complaint about the iPod.

holy sh!t, I think we finally have an ipod killer. To date, no one has been able to match the ipod's dimensions and features. This is as bit, a bit lighter and has tons more features.

Too bad its so expensive though! Maybe once they start selling well the price will drop? maybe not..
