Like many who read the "glowing" review by Anandtech about the new Gigabyte GA-8SG667 motherboard I busted my hump to purchase one. Well now lets get our ducks in a row eh:

#1 Anandtech review clearly stated that when released the motherboard would support voltage adjustments.......it didnt.

#2. Since release Gigabyte has found that the SIS648 chipset needs cooling.........golly they now included a chipset fan but dont look for a socket to power one up on first versions.

#3. Gigabyte went to great lenghts to beg for forgiveness for very bad customer service and promised much better.......yeah right 4 emails and not 1 reply.

#4. Apparently version 2 of mb has been released to the known world except for the US.

Dude you are not along in such matters... One day 2 years ago ( want say where I got it or what brand ) I order a case that cost around 300 dollars after shipping was put on it! Almost 3 mnths went by and when I got the case I was missing a few parts need for the water cooling system in it- aswell as the water tank! After 2 mnths of emails and even calling this online shopping center aswell as the company that made the case... I got nothing- 300 dollars for nothing!!! Now I buy only from one place that has gave me such cares on my orders to make sure everything was always right ( I do run my own lill pc shope so when things comes freaked up it's my ars that pays! )... I want state what place I buy from now cause FIRST I talked good of them and the MODs and maybe some of the ppl that might hate the "store" would prob say I'm spaming the boards.... anways hope you get stuff worked out.

Hence the saying: "Buyer beware"

Reading one review or making one call is never sufficient for a purchase of expensive computer components.

I have learned through out the years to wait for at least 3 months upon arrival of new products, before buying any hardware, for users with different configs to post their problems or successes on the different computer forums I frequent before I buy anything anymore. And although I respect Anand's site for reviews and what not, I still scour all the other hardware sites for their reviews before purchasing anything. But that's just me. Take the Asus P4T-533 for example, all the reviews were glowing. But when people actually started building boxes with them the real problems started to crop up.

Nuff said Grumpy Man.......if you cannot trust reviews then why even bother to have review sites up unless to fill the coffers of hardware mfgs eh. I just wanted to hear what Anandtech staff had to say about being mislead by Gigabyte and allowing the review to go unchanged.

gigabyte hosed me the exact same way.... they send out review boards with voltage and then remove it from the retail boards

sounds like a very similar situation to what i was in with the 8IRX.

 Here in the UK you have protection when purchasing esp on-line, plus most credit card co's add extra protection too, is there not something similar to this in the US, if goods aren't up to spec, damaged, faulty or never delivered do you really just have to eat it?

Don't you all remember the fine print: specifications to change without notice. GigaByte could have made several decisions because of cost or hardware limitations to change retail boards. You can't blams Anand.

If your order from a reputable dealer you don't have to eat it. But you have to be more careful here because of unscrupulous dealers who sometimes won't even answer the support phone line. And most credit card companies allow some recourse if the goods are faulty or damaged.

As in the case with Quantrel, he probably ordered based on a model number and the website may just had generic specs on there. Most places would make you eat it, but some better dealers would take it for exchange but your still out money for shipping.

What nonsense, they should not spread such lies. Perhaps a BIOS revision will add the ability to do so, but that is just speculation.
#2. Since release Gigabyte has found that the SIS648 chipset needs cooling.........golly they now included a chipset fan but dont look for a socket to power one up on first versions.
It's OK, when boards start failing due to the excessive heat, Gigabyte will have to RMA people the revised boards.
#3. Gigabyte went to great lenghts to beg for forgiveness for very bad customer service and promised much better.......yeah right 4 emails and not 1 reply.
That is just sad. I have heard of bad automated responses and such, but that is ridiculous. No response at all. What good is that?
#4. Apparently version 2 of mb has been released to the known world except for the US.
That's pretty stupid, considering the US is the largest market for PCs...

then leave :|
No one is forcing you to be here. And no one forced you to buy having only read one review. It's not as if they didn't say in the review that it was a pre-release board. Suck it up or do something about it, don't come whine in here and expect us to offer a shoulder to cry on when you didn't do your homework before making a purchase.

Anything out less than 3-6 months is bleeding edge, and you are experiencing the reason they call it that.

There may never be any resolution for your problems, and that sucks....but until people stop accepting the terms: "specifications may change without notice" it will happen.

The main cause (IMHO) is a manufacturer pushes the envelope with the 'beta'/reviewed version....it gets all this publicity and then they decide to cut back a bit so only the most technically informed people will complain (read as a unstatistical 1% or so). Voila! they save a quarter or two per part and make another million on the back end. They sell buzzwords nowadays but seldom deliver.

:(

Quantrel, I don't know if you read my emails or replies to you on asusboards.com (I think it was you), but as I've said before:

1. 8SG667 is not a dead product. Gigabyte is still selling and very much marketing their 8SG667, and therefore they can still make BIOS revisions, board revisions, etc. now or in the immediate future.
2. Gigabyte told me that a "new" 8SG667 motherboard would be released. They indicted a new BIOS, but it seems they may have just decided to go with a board revision instead (Rev. 2 or something). I can't control these types of decisions, I can only post what Gigabyte thinks is going to happen.

There's nothing in my review that I need to update unless Gigabyte doesn't offer any board or BIOS revisions that adds voltage/monitoring functionality after they are done with the 8SG667. Only when Gigabyte does this will I clearly and explicitly state that the board and BIOS I reviewed are pretty much all you can expect out of 8SG667.

Hopefully I've answered most of your questions? :)

yeah I gotta say I was pretty disappointed that the board didn't perform as I expected it to. Or that I have no way of knowing if my CPU or system is running too hot. These very basic features should have made it in the shipping boards. Being bleeding edge just isn't worth it any more...I'll wait 3 months after GB and then replace my board.
