Pick a day where you smile at everyone and see what kind of reactions you get from people. Wherever you are, school, work, at a stoplight, etc. Just smile and see what happens. Do you get different reactions from guys or girls, young people or old people, etc. Report back to the thread about how your day went when you smiled at everyone.

I think people would think I am messed up in the head if I all of a sudden had a permanent smile. I don't smile much.

That's a good idea. Considering I'm doing some interviewing of prospective employees tomorrow, that might help them out quite a bit.

i'm not saying to smile 24/7 so you have some screwed up smile on your face like you are crazy. just when you see a person coming towards you or you look at sosmone just flash them a smile and see how they react.

Damn. At my work they get off on putting interviewees through the wringer.

I did that on my way home. I smiled at the guy that was shoveling snow and say "having fun?" sure he smiled back and said "yea"

They put them through a pretty strenuous character and situational review as it is (mostly just group work, seeing how people interact with each other, etc.); it's just college students, and for some of them it's the most difficult interview process they've been through. I figure their actions and responses are going to be scrutinized bit by bit as it is, I may as well try and make them as at ease as possible.

whenever i see people and they happen to make eye contact i smile at them anyways, (my gf kinda got me wired) here are the reactions that i think in my head that the person on the receiving end of my smile will have:

(gawd damn is he gay?)
(what a nice big fat asian guy)
(oh, he wasn't "dogging" at me)
(nicest asian guy in the world)
(is he gonna ask me out?)
(i hope not)
(on damn he's coming closer)
(ok he turned right)

damn, programming in lisp made me put everything in parenthesis, i dunno why man

Smiling can also be a secondary fear reaction.
Think about it. When you're nervous, what do you do?
So, I say, Just give them the finger.
