The service installer hides the icon as long as 'allow service to interact with the desktop' is unchecked.

erm...

one of the things I just remembered about SoB - and why I didn't stay with it on my main rig - was how does it respond to being cut off abruptly

I mean I have no issues leaving it running say now while I surf and such but I'm fixing to start playing WiC in about 30 minutes - will it "save" work I've done so far or its that a wash?

*I know that kinda sounds like a n00b question but i'm a SoB n00b >_<

Yep, it saves pretty aggressively, you almost never lose work. The only exception is if you haven't rebooted since installing the client - in which case it'll forget the test you were working on and grab a new one next time you start the client (because of a registry entry which is only created after rebooting, even though the client doesn't require you to).

not good -- i'm at 6.8% of 2 tests now and I didn't reboot :(

*edit*

lost some but not too much after the reboot

It takes about two minutes to get the client working on the original test again - instructions here.

But if it didn't start on a completely new test then don't worry about this.

And another push to the top for the good cause.

You're doing great nefariouscaine.
You've almost reached your goal of a daily 1T. I guess if you find one more box as parttime cruncher, then you're done.
Then the next goal is winking at ya. :p

OK, the client is set up, it is running - I see myself as a member of the TeAm, but no results yet (of course ;) )
Got to wait for a day ...

Welcome, Peter!

This is a fun project. It doesn't require babysitting like FAH did. I finally had to give that up because it didn't play well with my over-clocking.

I have 4 tests running as a service on the WinXP64 box and 3 on one Linux64 box and 2 on another Linux64 box. Running more than 2 tests on dual-cpus increases the wall-clock time for processing all the tests, however, you don't waste processing cycles every 90 seconds during the uploads.

In just 90 blocks processed by the first two tests, enough time is recovered to process 2 blocks of the extra app.

--Fred

PS: the WinXP service sets core affinity so you need 4 tests running to save the wasted cycles.

I just got another 1.7 P4 so maybe that might be enough juice to push it over the top :p

Another way to avoid wasted cycles is to use a SBQueue - then block submission is instantaneous, the client gets back to crunching immediately and the queue takes care of submitting to the server.

Ok, back to SoB with both dual-cores firing.

Edit: WTH! My machine just rebooted, after being on for two or so days, crunching F@H and SB. Computer is Prime95 stable (as well as F@H and SB stable.) I don't get it.

Christmas break starts for my school system today. No kids, no staff, just crunching.

And I am setting up a new lab over the next two days... :D

Cool! :D

Yea F@H is 'tight' on overclocking but if F@H EUE'ed on ya then the o/c isn't stable ;)

So far we're looking good today. I got the new lab in and am ghosting now. Tomorrow morning I will finish up and add a little more power. I think I only got three new computers on today.

+28 for the cause.

+6 more.

Well, I am going to be out of town, and probably away from a computer until Christmas EVe. Hopefully I come back and we are close to passing Free-DC. I think I have my stuff as cranked up as I am going to get it until after the first of the year. I hope the power stays on over the break!!!

So, if I'm good in basic maths, that should be some 34 more boxes. :D
Hopefully the power stays on indeed, otherwise we won't get FreeDC before years end.

TAandy, onecore is great, because FreeDC wheeled in some of their big hitters. We can use all the power we can get.

THIS IS ANOTHER CALL TO ALL TA_MEMBERS WHO STILL HAVE SOME SPARE POWER LEFT ANYWHERE IN CYBERSPACE.
THE RACE WITH FREE_DC IS HEATING UP AND WE CAN USE ALL THE POWER WE CAN GET. :)

FEEL FREE(-DC) TO JOIN IN. :p

You guys put up a terrific fight! You should be very proud of yourself to have put up such a gallant fight. You almost pulled it off!
We almost didn't see your rapid climb in time.
It was a win win for the project. 3  to your Team and everyone involved.

Man oh man oh man - they kicked it up big time. Thats some crazy output going on!!!

If we hurry up and jump on what ever other project that *super computer* got pulled from we might be able to get 2 races going :p

I wish I had more to throw at Free-DC but I'm tapped out at 7 CPU's (mostly P4 rigs) - come on TeAm I know one of you has at least 1(or 50!) spare Q6600's ;)

But seriously great job everyone

I don't think they can sustain that pace without hurting some of their other projects, they will shadow us for a while but will break down eventually.

overall good for the project though.
