My A/C crapped out on me today. Its currently 90F in my apartment. Hopefully I can get someone to come over and look at it tomorrow.

What can I do for some relief? Any tips for sleeping tonight?

It is best to sleep on the floor as heat rises. If you have a hardwood or tile floor it will be the coolest. Lay a blanket down and try to get comfortable.

Good idea. Plus I have a plush top mattress which gets warm pretty quickly. My couch is leather and gets hot pretty fast too.

engineer your airflow properly.

i work with mechanics all the time (large shops are near impossible to air condition in the local climate) who like to gather up as many fans as possible and point them at the area where they're working, all blowing against each other. net effect = zero. and everyone else gets hotter. i usually try and get everyone to point their shit one way down one side of the shop and the other way on the opposite, keeps a good well circulated breeze going.

apartment are much easier. if you set up your apartment so that air is constantly being exhausted out the windows (drawing it in from hopefully cooler sources, like the hallway outside your door), i think you'll do okay.

window units are not expensive, also. you could get a little $100 one and just stick it in your bedroom for extra comfort. the better you seal it to the window (and seal off the room from the rest of the apartment) the cooler it'll gradually get.

Get a bucket of ice and put it in front of a fan. Get a wet towel and put in on your head and shoulder.

Pull the window up if it is safe to do so. Try to sleep on the floor instead of the mattress. It will not be pleasant but doable.

<<<-----able to handle the cold weather much better than the heat.

turn off your computers and other sources of heat

that, too. keep the kitchen closed off if possible.

big heat producers outside of the kitchen are usually pretty obvious. TV, game consoles, computers would be the most common of course.

interesting fact- the power consumed by an idling xbox360 over one year is equal to seven nagasaki nuclear bombs.

I would go to walmart and purchase a window unit and then return the thing after I got my AC fixed.

This would also be the best solution for the electronics.

I've turned everything off that I can. I'm only using one cfl bulb for light. All my electronics are off. I'm using iPad instead of a computer.

I just spent the last two hours in the tub filled with cold water. It wasnt even that cold. The cold tap was about 80F. It got a bit colder as it sat though.

I've got a gas stove in the kitchen that puts off a lot of heat even when off. It has 5 pilot lights. I'm holed up in the bedroom with two fans.
