I noticed a few things, don't know if anyone could use them or not:

$6.95 retail Sidewinder gamepad
$4.95 for not retail
$22 56k external modem
$169 hard drive based MP3 player, retail, need to add 2.5" notebook drive though
$7.95 retail Microsoft SideWinder Dual Strike USB Game Pad

There were some other stuff, not gonna list ($4.95 10/100 PCI network card, etc.)

Don't forget to use the 10% code for non-geek specials.

The MS game controllers would be even better if there are rebates going around still.

These controllers have been there for a while. The shipping tends to get you at compgeeks.

Even if you buy more, and think that you will save on shipping, it tends not to apply at compgeeks, where each item adds on a hefty shipping amount.

Still, if you're in the market for a real cheap controller, those aren't too bad.

what are you talking about? It's $5 shipping for like up to maybe 10 lbs. I live close to them, but still. Their shipping is usually pretty reasonable unless you get the 2nd day air or something.

Yeah, I'm p*ssed at compgeeks (for falsely advertising Radeon VEs), but their shipping/handling rates always seemed fair to me.

This 4-in-1 Torx driver ain't exactly Snap-on quality, but darn good for the price. (Hurry! Only 1199 left!) No extra shipping charge for sending it up the coast with a 366 Celery ($6).

Press the blue Compute Shipping button (on the shopping cart page) and enter your zip code. I wish all e-commerce sites did this!

Well, $5 for shipping is fair...... for larger amount items.....but if I am buying something cost $5, and shipping costs $5....sounds bad to me......I will see what they cost elsewhere.

Without shipping, the deal is really good.🙂

Um, dlaw, what do you think UPS's minimum shipping charge is? Compgeeks can't charge you less if you are buying one cheap item you know...

Yeah, I got the 50 CDRs for $10 and that torx screwdriver too.

Man . . . a couple of months ago I bought one gamepad on a certain auction site for about twice that. Its a great gamepad and they don't make them anymore I believe.

I ordered three gamepads and the torx set. Shipping was $8.00

I also got a free "JamIT Digital Sound Mixer Blue Microphone" somehow. Who knew?

Thanks for the post!

The original sidewinder . . . very comfy in the hands and you can plug an additional sidewinder into each controller (up to four gamepads). Very cool for sports games with friends.

("Geek Specials" have the round green icon.) Somebody said they received an optical drive that the Geeks hadn't properly packed, but all my stuff has come with plenty of bubble wrap.

i have dealt with compgeeks once and the experience was horrible. i ordered a brand new product, and they sent me an open box used item. i email them about the situation, and they take a week to respond. the response was for me to RMA the item and I would have to cover shipping costs? wtf? never do business with them. unreliable and unprofessional.

compgeek is evil, they like other dirty business aren't much different. they slow to ship your stuff and 2: sell most other stuff inflated prices that you can get elsewhere much cheaper. do not buy refurbish from compgeeks, most of them or infact none that i gotten have worked at all example: full bed hand scanner and hand scanner that was defective on arrival. also once you placed order, it cannot be cancelled! even if they have not process, let say you changed your mind after a min. they will just shove it down your throat, make you pay them restocking fee if you wanna hassle with them but they are hoping that you will just keep it as it their way of making money. some other place are much better you can cancel if it hasn't shipped yet but compgeek is a poor man's business way of making $$$ of unfortunate folk who aren't very informed about the product they are buying.

things that I would buy at compgeeks: cat5 cable, cdr media

Bah .. I have ordered from them at least 6 or 7 times .. never once have i had a problem. I've ordered all kinds of stuff (old ppro boxes, keyboards, mouses, refurb vid cards, refurb monitors, media, and other stuff)

They are a bit slow at shipping, And it is a hastle to cancel orders, but they have great prices imo. And sometimes you may need to sacrifice on service (spend less) to have low prices. Also their shipping prices are not so bad, While they are a bit more than Actual UPS cost one needs to take into account the packagingthey are better than about 90% of the stores on pricewatch.

Whenever i need cheap parts or old boxes, Compgeeks has always been one of my top choices (pcliquidators is good too, and comprenew used to rule (they have changed over to an all-bulk method now though).

I've ordered many times from them, usually they are good and their description of the product is very accurate. Only bad thing is if you need to return something, you can only exchange or get store credit and you have to pay return shipping.

I have ordered 3 or 4 times from them and they have always been fair on shipping and the service that I received was actually really good. A power supply that i bought from them was DOA and they refunded me the money plus sent me a UPS label in the mail to cover the cost of shipping it back. I just recieved a case from them that was damaged during shipping and they are sending me a label to return it as we speak. IMO CompGeeks is a good retailer.

what do you guys think about the SideWinder Dual Strike Game Pad? is it any good? what makes it 3d? Does it allow other controllers to be plugged into it like the OG sidewinder?

thanks,
Mike

I have no clue, but I ordered a dual strike, so if you want, PM me this weekend and I'll let you know. The only thing I know about it is that it twists and stuff at the joint...?

I have the Dual Strike and really like it for FPS games. With the way it moves, you can really aim well. I typically get the "accuracy" award in a Q3 game (as high as 90%). I have worn out 2 and have several in reserve (got them at Big Lots for 9.99 - they still have them). These are USB, so there is no need to daisy chain them like the orig Sidewinder.
