I bought a used xp pro system with a valid windows coa but it did not come with the original windows install cd. Went to boot it up one day and it informed me that my config\systems file was missing or corrupt.----and it refused to boot---I finally got it fixed but thats somewhat of a side issue on this thread.
But when I got the missing start up file message---the first question going through my mind was this just a start up file that became corrupted or was it caused by my hard disk crapping out? So the first thing I wanted to do was look at my hard drive and see the files were in tact and possibly read some data out to a floppy.
And I discovered I had no utility in the house able to even address the C: drive which is a sata1 formatted FTFS---the windows boot disk could read A: and could read my cd rom drive, but could not read the hard disk. And I can boot to either my floppy or my cd rom drive.
Can any recommend something I can download and burn off the internet to address that problem if it ever occurs again?
