I've been using the Blacklist app by AntTek for android. The interface on it sucks and yesterday it let through 3 texts that it was supposed to block. It actually posted a notification that it blocked one text, but it still let the other two through, even though they were all from the same sender. So now I'm looking for a blacklist app that actually works. Does anyone know of one?

The best blacklists are provided by the ISP. Android seems to be somewhat limited in this area, but check with your ISP. I have one that lets me use a designated white list only - all other email is rejected.

I know there are SMS apps themselves that let you block people.

You can also block texts and calls at the service provider level (at least with VZW you can -- with an easy to use web interface no less)

Root Call Blocker Pro is ridiculously good and the devs keep improving it. But you need to be rooted.

I've been using it for over a year.

My Note2 and HTC One had the functionality built in. I was sad to find that the Moto X does not have this functionality and I'm getting telemarketer calls that I was previously able to block.

Root Call Blocker is the only one worth a shit that I've tried, and I've tried every one I could find. It's not free though and requires root.

Apparently that counts as bloat. Its only useful software if you have to unlock your bootloader, root your phone, install and test a bunch of (sometimes broken) ROMs, then hunt around on the play store for an app that works.

It's not bloat if it's in the settings menu of your phone.

It's bloat if it's a separate app that you have to launch that Samsung includes called S-Block and it looks like Gingerbread and eats up 84mb of your memory and has to run in the background and causes 200 wakelocks an hour.

Ahhh ok. Is that the definitive definition that we can stick to?
