A bit of info on the Nexus One

Hmm, so I guess the Nexus One isn't going to be the $30/month, data plan only VOIP phone like many places on the net are saying?

Is it just going to be a regular smartphone on T-Mobile like the G1 and MyTouch 3G were?

Actually, it's promised to give you the power of flight...

And invisibility 😀

I don't know how to type that short.

I need a translator that can turn my type into the above type. It's just... amazing.

I think I mean...

THIS!

What did you think of it?

What was it like, flying & being invisible & stuff?

Definitely snappy. Compared it to the HTC Hero which uses Sense and all those widgets. Screen is nice. The resolution difference between the iPhone is obvious, but readability and contrast and what not... isn't like a day and night difference. I'd say the iPhone can keep up in terms of color and screen brightness and stuff.

I'm still iffy about the stupid ball. Thumbs down for no ATT 3G because I seriously need an alternative to the few UMTS 1900 world phones out there... and there's only VERY FEW.

The camera seems a notch above the Droid, but I can't really comment too much on that. Overall it's a nice phone. I didn't get to type on it too much but seeing how the Droid Eris performed, I can imagine the Nexus One will be just as good.

Is T mobile only confirmed, or is that just what the test models have???

The only thing confirmed is that it does in fact grant the power of invisibility 😱

Seriously though, the models given away are TMobile 3G only, Edge on ATT.

The video DEMO24 posted is on WiFi

Wait so I won't be able to buy a Nexus One at all if I have AT&T? I just want to buy a nice smartphone with no data plan for <$300...

No you can buy it just fine. You can buy any smartphone without any data plan on any company. You just have to pay full price for the phone.

If it's like other Android phones, you have to jump through some hoops to activate it without a data plan, it can be done, but it's not an out of the box thing...

No one has put a price on it yet, given the specs, I don't think it'll be $300, expect it to run $399 or more.

I was going to skip on this and buy a Telus HTC Hero with AT&T 3g bands, but seeing how much snappier this is I'm probably going to get this and live with EDGE on ATT until T-mobile gets a prepaid data plan.

Why would you want a smart phone, something that can pull data like a democrat spends money, without a data plan?

some people actually have wifi access everywhere they go (work, school, home), so the lack of a data plan is moot to them. however...i have had a data plan for years now, and cant imagine any of my phones without one!

Why do you have to jump through hoops to activate it without a data plan? Just set the network settings and you should be good to go.

All you have to do is pop your AT&T sim card into it. You can purchase a data plan (the $15 one) and ATT will never know you're supposed to be paying for a "smartphone" plan.

You won't get AT&T 3G because of the lack of 1900 and 850 UMTS. This makes AT&T still completely android free.

I have wifi at home and at work, the places I spend the majority of my time. Catch is, at work, the wifi is subject to all the same firewall rules, filtering, and tracking that the wired network is. Not that I'm using my Droid to look at adult content or other non-work related material, but I like the freedom to do what I wish with it. For example, I cannot ftp to my personal web server from the Droid while connected to the corporate wifi. At home, meh, no big deal. Since I get good signal nearly everywhere with Verizon, depending on wifi is really a moot point for me.

You still have to be careful without a data plan though, I would think, without one, you're going to get charged by the MB.
