I can get the combo for $180, but Im a little green and am not sure if this combo will do allright and will allow me to expand in the future...as well as unsure of its OC'ing capability. Can someone help me here? :)

is the durons stock speed 800? or is it overclocked to 800?
I would say get a new Abit Kt7E and a duron 600-700..

The package for $180 isn't any special deal. I think it might be a little high. If you're wanting to OC, then you should at least look at the KT7A since it have the 266 Mhz FSB.

But yes, something along that line is a good starter system. the Duron 800 should be around $50 bucks and with the KT7A you can drop in a faster Tbird later when you want to.

Go to ww.pricewatch.com before buying anything from anyone. You can check out how much new stuff is.

No, you could put a Tbird in that, just the KT7A supports the 266 FSB as opposed to the KT7 which only supports the 200 FSB. You can put a Tbird in it, it just has to be one with only 200 FSB.
