A bit about Lucas and how he has killed star wars

He said all along that Episode III would be dark. I mean, come on. It culminates with Anakin becoming Darth Vader. There is really no way that you could do that and make it look like a happy time for any of the primary characters.

I think Stark meant episode V, part 2 of the original trilogy. You should've realized this since it actually was directed by someone else, Irvin Kershner. IMDB

Man this Star Wars stuff is bringing out the geek in me 😛

Star Wars rules..

You guys are still talking about it aren't ya! And you'll still go see Ep. 3 won't ya?

Admit it...you will.

I haven't even seen the new ones yet. Well I tried to watch the first 'new' one and couldn't watch it 2 seconds after that stupid character appeared. Ruined the entire series for me.

You're kidding, right? The changes were major. Huge in fact. The worst change was the complete destruction of the motivation for Han Solo's character. The 2nd worst was transforming the series from the story of a righteous underdog rebellion over evil into the life story of Annakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader. The 3rd worst is changing the Force from a religion that anyone with enough faith could become powerful in into what is basically a genetic anamoly reserved for a very few.

Obviously he is doing something right since Stars Wars has been a house hold term for awhile now...

More importantly, they are his movies to do whatever he pleases with...once you make 6 megamillion dollar movies, you can decide if you want to re-release them or add anything to them (or not)...

And really, how much did the special editions really change the movie? Darth Vader is still Luke's dad and he dies in the end...(may need a spoiler alert for this one😀)

and to conclude: It's just a frickin' movie...get over it....

\end of rant...now putting on flamesuit...
The Star Wars series rides on the outstanding success of the original movie. As has already been proven, Lucas could turn out complete garbage under the franchise and it would be a hit. This is because the original movie was revolutionary and groundbreaking in almost every respect. It literally changed the way all movies re made.
His continuous re-writing of them is IMO like pissing on the Bible.

I think the first two (Episodes IV & V) were the only good ones, with ESB being the best. The new one looks outstanding based on the trailers, but I am reluctant to get excited this time (ok I lied, I am excited). If Anakin kills Jar Jar on the assault on the Jedi Council, I will let Lucas off for the last two (but not RotJ).

They changed all that in the reedits of IV, V, VI?
I must have missed all that. Does anyone else know these changes Vic is talking about?

I always thought that the Force had something to do with genetics, that Luke was strong with the Force ability because he was the son of Darth Vader.

It has been a LONG time since I posted on this forum, but as you can see, I do read em still.

I am a Star Wars fanatic. I own most of the novels (prequel novels up until Episode II, and none of the Young Jedi/Boba series), I own the original release videos, the THX mastered, the widescreen and 4:3 SE releases but not the DVD's (dispise the changes). Yes, I even have a costume and I wore it for last Halloween. That all said, I hate episode I, I disliked episode II (only watched both once on the big screen and once on DVD) and long for a true unedited version of the originals on DVD. I *will* be at the midnight showing of Episode III as I was at I and II, and I was at the first showings of the original rereleases in the theators where I live (skipped HS to see ANH). I figure Lucas will have to do something god awful to mess up III, and I really want to know how it turns out. I know I will have tears in my eyes when 'STAR WARS' scrolls, just like I have for IV, V, VI, I, and II.

<--- Spoiler Free Until Episode III (Have not read any prequel era books after Episode II, have not been to any spoiler sites, and I put my hands on my ears and go LALALALALA when anyone tries to tell me ANYTHING about it).

eps 4,5,6 unbeatable!
eps 1,2 cold have been a lot better......
eps 3 looks very promising( dark, just like hes always said from day 1)
the re-edits were fine and not major

STAR WARS still rules ALL!!!

😀

I'll watch it. But I'll be watching it for the same reason I clicked on that thread about the chimps biting a guys balls off. Not because I want to, but because an evil force compels me too.

I would have though an Evil Yoda would have recognize a Sith brother.

I havn't just been cheated out of 3 star wars movies, I've been cheated out of all 6. I refuse to watch the new DVD version because it's been bastardized, and 25 year old VHS tapes don't work well.

I think the problem is that Lucas no longer needs to innovate the way he did in the 70s. He has unlimited money, too much technology, and knows that he can survive on brand recognition alone.

For episode IV, especially...he had little budget and no tech. So he had to invent and innovate. Now he just uses a bunch of CG.

exactly how much difference is there between the original and special edition movies??? 10-15 minutes each??? couple extra scenes of special effects???

I mean seriously, the enhanced explosion of the death star is bastardizing the movie?

you act like it has a totally different ending or something...

and how are you being cheated? It is Lucas' product to offer and your choice to accept it (or not)...

I'm so sick of people whining about star wars and lucas.

The series is a piece of crap sci fi flick to begin with. It just by chance got a clut following and then steadily grew in popularity. The first star wars is not a quality movie. Why do people expect so much out of a sci fi story? It's a low rent sci fi flick that happened to catch on, and then became classic, you are expecting too much from the genre.

You're kidding, right? The changes were major. Huge in fact. The worst change was the complete destruction of the motivation for Han Solo's character. I don't see how Han's character was destroyed. If you look at the series as a whole, meaning the prequels, the first 3 originals and the 3 books that take place after the original movies I think the context of all the characters is spot on.

The series was really focused on luke skywalker and his life, the rebellion was the backdrop of the actual core story. Making the 3 prequels focus on the development of anakin skywalker and the empire plays perfectly into the story line of the original 3 movies.

I don't think the force was ever intended as a religion that anyone could participate in. I believe that the whole idea behind a genetic disposition to using the force was maintained throughout the entire series. If anything over time lucas has had time to think harder and further develop his ideas on how the series should have been played out. Initially he couldn't do everything he wanted to do with it. Now he has thoes resources.

Which Empire was, without question, the absolute best of all the Star Wars movies. And why? Because it was directed by someone else.

The first movie (Ep IV, "A New Hope", for all the geeks) was simply groundbreaking. As a whole though, it was corny and suffered from a lot of directing and writing problems (the worst being Lucas' ridiculous and infamously bad lines -- "Governor Tarkin, I should have expected to find you holding Vader's leash. I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board").
