It's been a while since I have been able to use my computer. I just noticed seti wasn't connecting at all, and i don't know why. A network has been set up here. I was using setiQ. Now that its not working i tried changing things in setiQ (i have no idea what i'm doing with it or how to use it at all) and it didn't seem to help. That didn't work so i deleted it and i can't connect directly either. There are 2 computers on the network and they go through a router which is connected to the internet via a cable modem. The favor part was maybe someone could email me their setiQ all set up to go through a router so that way I might be able to get this working by only changing an ip address or 2.

What is the exact message you are getting when you try to connect? Is it telling you that it can't find the server at all, or just that the connection timed out?

The Berkeley servers have been pretty hammered recently, and a lot of people have been having trouble connecting in the past few days..

Fingers - I'm gonna ask you a possibly way off the wall question (for a reason) but what version client are you using?

Nope, that's not the problem. I'm running 3.0 GUI and CLi through my SetiQ just fine. Another off-the-wall question, though, would be what version of SetiQ are you running?

Edit: yet another question: which thing is not finding the server, the SETI client, or SetiQ?

And following up on Ken's question - where are you flushing your RC5 blocks, ie., is it flushing via the numerical IP of a server or a proxy server hostname? (I'm trying to establish if your DNS config is working correctly)

when i was having trouble with setiq i scraped it, i deleted it. and i am now running just the setting client and it isn't connecting. I don't know about rc5, it is the first i have used it and it is just set up using whatever hte defaults are.

i just thought of something. I remeber one of the files that i was trying to delete said it was write protected and i didn't worry about it, so could that file be screwing me up¿ I'll try to find the name of it.

well i got rid of that file, and that wasn't it. This might be a dumb question but do i have to enter in the ip of my router anywhere.

Fingers, did you try unpluging the router and pluging back in. Same thing just happened to me with my netgear 4port. couldnt connect to server. went nuts with ip address, taking out nic. ect. ect.

Fingers - the ip of your router would be your gateway out to the net so yeah, it should be in your network properties somewhere as your "gateway". And since you're using the default proxy for RC5, I believe that connects via an IP only too...

It feels like your network config needs to be redone if what lane42 recommends doesn't work. The seti clients and setiqueue connect to the data server via the hostname, so somewhere, a DNS needs to resolve that hostname to a numerical IP before it will connect. Quickest way to try to confirm whether you're resolving names correctly is checking whether the Setiqueue machine can get on the web okay...

Fingers, also try (if you have windows) going to start-run type-in winipcfg. At the ethernet adapter information, scroll to pci Bus master adapter, click on, and then ok.
Then see if all works.

sorry for the delay all, I have checked my router is definatly, at least I think so set up correctly. I tried unpluging it and using winipcfg. Still no luck. But on the bighter side of things rc5 and ogr are becoming increasingly fun.

Fingers,
Can't help you on the router issue, sorry.
Just have a dumb question of my own. You say you're just running RC5 with default settings? I hope you at least put in the email address you crack under? I never tried running it w/o an addy, maybe it won't even run that way. Heh, if that's the case, this question is even dumber than I thought!
