This isnt so much an eye for an eye as it is prevention of further attacks worldwide. If you let them run free forever they will attack forever. Remember Bush gave them more than one opportunity to do the right thing and turn over the terrorists. Like Saddam Hussein was warned and given multiple opportunities to withdraw from Kuwait. They said no way, come and get him yourselves, and that we are doing.

then get snipers to kill the terrorists and taliban leaders... generally, do harm to all associated with the bombing.... BUT DON'T kill the afghan civilians. Because once you do, the US of A would officially become TERRORISTS!

Listen man, this is war, in war innocent civilians do get killed, you think the US WANTED to kill innocent civilians, obviously not. We made a mistake, hopefully those mistakes won't happen again.

I'm not sure if there's another solution, but I wish we just wish the military wouldn't just go into war with guns blazing.

why the hell are you griping if you don't think there's another solution? you can wish all you want, i'm sure we all wish that this all never happened, but this is reality. the only thing you can do is pick the best course of action (if you don't think there's another solution, that means that military action is the best solution) and try your hardest to make it work. sitting around and complaining that our only option is a bad one will not accomplish anything.

Dont even assume more civilians wont be hurt or killed. When the enemy hides out in amongst the civilians as cover it will happen. They are cowards and will use the civilian deaths as a means to gain support for themselves, even if they have to kill more civilians themselves. It wouldnt be anything they havent been doing since they took over. Do you think the Taliban came to power without killing thier own people?

<< Mahatma Gandhi was assinated by Hindu extremists on this date in 1948. >>

sad day indeed. and yet who had more lasting impact, he or the Hindu extremists? ;)

This Einstein quote summarizes it well :

<< "Generations to come will find it difficult to believe that a man such as Gandhi ever walked the face of this earth" >>

<< one last note... terrorists do not form just do randomly commit acts of extreme violence. They form for a reason, AND maybe if we stopped thinking about how to destroy them, and start figuring out what motivated them to kill US citizens, then you might be getting somewhere. and if you say terrorists are people without reason... then you might want to compare the stubbornness of the terrorists versus the stubbornness of Bush's determination for bombing afghanistan. >>

well said. I sometimes wonder how this limited military engagement can turn the tide of terrorism, or how one can possibly fight terrorism in the way we are attempting to approach it now. That being said, I doubt there is a peaceful solution.

two wrongs don't make a right (another cliche for ya). you're right, we should reevaluate our foreign policy, but in addition to doing that, these people should be destroyed for their crime.

my view on "civilian casualties":

at even the Tailban's inflated count of 500 or so, we're still about 4500 from the terrorists. they don't want civilan casualties, don't kill civilians.

taking this lying down doesn't make us better people, it makes us weak as a nation. and for those who oppose violence of any kind, the reason you're allowed to is because of the freedoms granted to us as US citizens. don't support the actions of our government? move to Afganistan.

<< So how do you justify an act of violence with more acts of violence?

Oh and beast.. yeah... that comment really showed your intelligence. I guess we can all start the name calling war now.
>>

Berkeley, huh? Pacifist for sure. Anyway, what are your suggestions to get Americans of anyone's, group's or country's hit list? I'm sure your turn the other cheek attitude would really work, of course, that is after we're all gone. "We" didn't start this, no matter what the extremist excuse, first off it was England and the USSR that came up with the idea of a Jewish state (which I've nothing against), secondly when the Arabic states attacked Israel in the 60's, it was the USSR that aided Israel, of course, now the U.S. (and ANY other powerful nation) has an "interest" there, more notably the stability in terms of political, economic, and regional issues, a disturbance in ANY of these interests can set off a domino effect into the others, and spill over into the rest of the world. As for our oil interest, we bought the land, and implemented the technology to get the oil, the Nation's involved in these dealings backed out and Nationilized our efforts. You justify it simply, when you go after them, punish them and their host countries, they will have no incentive attacking Americans again, or at the very least they become so disorganized as countries shun them, they wouldn't have the impact they carry now, and surely wouldn't have access to weapons that could be far more devastating than what happened on Sept. 11. We just don't fit in the same boat as Israel, and they should cease that activity as soon as they realize our response would be grave to their "cause". Getting back to the "access" point, you really don't believe that if they had such weapons available to them on Sept. 11th, they would not have opted for a bigger news event? You can't be that ignorant, can you? I, on the otherhand believe we aren't be "strong" enough, as I believe we shouldn't be courting ANY nation when we are responding to our threats, and I believe we should dust off a nuke or 2 and make the message LOUD and CLEAR. YOU may be satisfied with the possibility of being killed because "war is bad", but I and 90% of this country believe we can and should eliminate this problem, besides that, we do live in America, a democracy, and YOU are the minority... case closed.

Regards,
Roger
