I grew up using a Space Commander remote for my Zenith tv. You could see the little tuning forks in them.
Wow. Thats a real blast from the past.

Not to mention, if you started playing with one of the old fashioned metal Slinky's, it would start to f' with the channels & volume.

This one is a slightly newer model than the one we had. We had a black and white tv. Notice how high the keys are. It took some physical effort to push them down since they had to strike the tuning forks hard enough to make enough sound.

When I got old enough to understand the principle I wondered what other sounds could set it off.

In other news, Energizer Corp. just rented an F-35, and purchased a number of bunker busters.

Last seen, it was headed toward Yokohama City.

Does anybody actually remember the "clicker" remotes from the 60s/70s? Those didn't have batteries. I think it struck some kind of tuning fork to make an ultrasound. So we've had clicker without batteries for at least 40 years.

so thats where the term clicker comes from? my girlfriend parents call the remote control for the TV, a clicker. at first i thought they were trying to be cute or something.

a group at my school made kinetic batteries in the size of AA form factor, and you shake it profusely and can use it in a remote

You can get a battery-less voice remote... just plant the misses next to the tv and order the channel changes you want. :p
