Are there any "bad" versions of the LINKSYS WRT54GL that I should avoid? Concerning firmware,etc? Concerning model SN prefix,etc?

That would be a negative as it is based off of the venerable WRT54Gv4. That particular model lacks some VLAN functionality compared to the V2.x models but is still a pretty darn slick piece of equipment.

I have one at work and with DD-WRTv23SP1 it works wonderfully.
