That article doesn't make a lot of sense considering AT&T is slowly killing off their EDGE network in favor of their 3G network. Why would they release a new EDGE-only phone now?

Personally, I think that it would make more sense for them to release a 32 GB 3G iPhone at the existing $299 price point, discount their 16 GB 3G iPhone to $199, and discount the 8 GB 3G iPhone to $149.

Making a $99 iPhone doesn't make a ton of sense, because people who can only afford a $100 phone aren't going to want to spend $80+ a month on their cell phone bill! They also aren't going to buy many $2 ringtones from iTunes and $5 applications from the App Store... Apple probably makes a fortune off those downloads.

that is what I'm banking on, this 8gb is running low.

Yeah... I just went over the 8 GB threshold on my 16 GB iPhone. The movie files really eat up space quickly!

When is Apple going to release the iphone to the other carriers? AT&T's data/voice plan is retardedly expensive.

The only barrier right now is the cheaper data plan. $199 is affordable to anyone in the market for a smartphone, whereas the initial $600 asking price was not. That's the biggest complaint I've heard lately - the data plan is too expensive. If they offered a limited one, they'd get even more subscribers. If the iPhone was $99, all the better.
