A $110.00 home in Detroit. Too much?

Detroit has always had problems. My point is, do we let a city that size simply turn into a ghost town? What kind of wonderful crime world can we invent when the scum have an entire city to play in? Do we just build a high tech wall around it and shoot anyone trying to leave? Sounds like some anime fantasy. BTW, since were talking about history, you do know the black plague is alive and well, right? I wonder what kind of environment would bring it back full force...

B.S. it was set up as a model city, look at the arcutecture and we all paid for it and it's a big ass mess. In the begining it was a great town but just fell to crap. Nothing on the people it's just the fact. Hell look google the videos of their detroit city council meetings and it will make you sick!

What I don't get is why the goverment can't do anything about this? Just have a massive police force to get rid of all the thugs, and then some incentives to live there, and let it rebuild again.

I think Holmes on Holmes could have a lot of fun in that town. LOL

Thats's the problem.... it's not a Fed problem but a "STATE" problem!

And you still haven't answered my question. I agree it's a mess. Do we board it up and ignore it? The causes the kinds of problems I've alluded to. No matter what we do (including nothing) it WILL cost us more money. How would you like to spend it? Fixing it's economy or using the super fund to clean up the toxic wasteland it will become?

It's Detroit. The government has literally abandoned it. Some Chinese corporation will probably buy the entire city and make it their headquarters. They'll hire everyone as personal aides and pay them a dollar a day.

The government has abandoned it? It's the government's job to provide people with income?

It's a pretty simple formula. Manufacturing has moved from Michigan in droves to cheaper areas like the South East and South. The population of Detroit has dropped by something like 30-40%. Yet the government and schools still have the same fixed costs and infrastructure, and true to form (see the fed. gov.) they tried to hide the problems until it all came crashing down.

Don't whine to me about IT jobs outsourced to India while driving a foreign car. Then I won't whine about manufacturing jobs outsourced to Mexico, Brasil, and China.....

Cops cost money, and there isn't skilled labor. To get skilled labor you need to clean up the trash. To clean up the trash, you need money....

I think they should just split it off from the rest of the country, and let libertarians buy it, and run it as an autonomous nation. I'd move there in a split second :^)

The school district alone is hundred of millions in the red because of the exodus of tax base. There's no money to hire anyone with.

Really? Do a home work assignment for me. Go look up where all our manufacturing jobs went, and who controls the United States' international trade law. It isn't Michigan, I guarantee you that.

I did answer your question it's the States problem.

The State can't fix it because the problem is too big for the state. You've heard of the saying One bad apple spoils the bunch? The problems in Detroit, Flint and others are well able to sink the "STATE." Think California's got problems? You aint seen nothing yet. Looking ahead, just how many "STATES" can we afford to lose before it sucks down the rest of the country with them?

Don't play that with me you dam well know most of it is caused by the EPA and if you don't know that or want to argue about it you have not been around that long.

To big for the state.... think about what the heck you are saying "WE" are the state! Dig in, suck it up and move forward that is what I learned working for my country when I put my 8yrs in the service.

Yes, the job market there is really that bad. Where have you been? I wasn't hyperbolizing when I said, the government has literally abandoned it.
Bullshit. It's just the people living in Detroit are to fucking lazy to look for a job.

There are tons of houses like that in Detroit. Hell there are houses in the suburbs of Detroit that cost a few grand. The only issue is most people gut the living hell out of these types of house before they get kicked out.

The 67 riots was the start of the downfall according to my dad. He told me he was up day and night during the riots with a shotgun by his side at all times.

That would honestly be the only thing I can think of that can turn Detroit around. The current people in Detroit are retarded.

When Kwame got out of jail he held an event at a local church to sell his new book. I think they said about 800 people came out to see him and those idiots were cheering for him. The news stations interviewed a few folks after the event and most stated the same thing, that they would vote for him again if he ever decided to run for Mayor of Detroit. /facepalm

Assuming you attempted to purchase that house, you would be murdered when inspecting it. Also, get ready to pay a few grand in property taxes. <3 Detroit 😀

Screw that, put that house up on blocks, slide a trailer under it and take it home to a nice location.

Same thing for the former governor of Louisiana, Fast Eddie. That bastard got convicted for corruption and spent several years in prison.

He got out recently and wrote a book and thousands went to see him at the book signing event and they said they would vote for him again if they could (he could not run for public office again unless got pardon). Unbelievable.

So, what's stopping me from buying that house, demolish it and just sit on the land and just pay property tax on the land? No insurance?

Go ahead, it looks like the last 5 neighbors did that judging by that nice green field next door 🙂

Here's the thing. At $110 I bet you you could buy that up and turn a profit by selling the scrap metal and whatever other raw materials you might be able to pull out of there.

Also another thing that's astounding isn't that the house is being sold for $110 but that the entire property is. You see lots of horrible looking houses being sold for a SHIT load more than they are worth because of the property values in the area. That means that the property isn't even worth 100 bucks!

Yeah, the riots were the beginning of the end. A great deal of the people that were residents of Detroit, that see the corruption of the government and the willingness of their neighbors to follow these corrupt leaders, have left Detroit.

There is nothing that will save Detroit as it is or as it was for a very long time. You will see in the areas most abandoned that the last houses will get bought up and those residents forced to moved. These areas will be plowed under and trees will be planted. The city will downsize. I see State and Federal funding to help with this. At some point this smaller Detroit will be able to manage its problems.

There still will be plenty of Detroit left to rebuild. Detroit is an area of 10X10 miles, I could see it losing half of its present housing. But, you have to understand the Metropolitan Area stretches at least 30 miles to the North, West, and South beyond that 10X10 mile area. I have to believe the Metro Area will remain vibrant for a while yet.

I'm actually thinking about buying another foreclosure, but it won't be in The City. There are plenty of $15K-$20K houses in good shape in much better areas that with a little TLC can be turned for a profit. Housing prices in the surrounding areas are actually seeing some gains.

Being from SE Detroit, I can tell you that the biggest problem with Detroit is the City government.
These people are literally bunch of Mr/Mrs 15%. They are not interested in anything else but enriching themselves and their fellow peeps and cousins.
Case and point:

Until that changes, I am not moving in.
