Looks like a sweet house to me. For the cost of 1 month of full featured cable access you can have a whole house. How could you go wrong?

There's got to be something I'm missing here...$200 homes that need work are still $200 homes. Neighborhoods that bad? Old drug houses, murder houses...I'm missing something.

It's Detroit. The government has literally abandoned it. Some Chinese corporation will probably buy the entire city and make it their headquarters. They'll hire everyone as personal aides and pay them a dollar a day.

Get 25 friends. Each of you can buy up an entire block of $100 homes for like $4000. Then you've got a 5 block by 5 block neighborhood that you know will be nice.

Yeah I don't get it either. I have seen 150k homes that still need like 50k of work done to them here. In fact that was pretty much the norm when I was house hunting. I could either buy a 200k home that hardly needed any work or a 150k home that needed TONS of work. The 100k homes would fall over if I looked at them funny.

I would think that with such low living costs more people would move to Detroit and just put up with the ghetto, and if enough people move, and fix up their homes, it would not be a ghetto anymore. Is the job market there THAT bad?

Yes, the job market there is really that bad. Where have you been? I wasn't hyperbolizing when I said, the government has literally abandoned it.

I don't know how to link to specific places in gmaps, but the house is right at "Whithorn Street, Detroit MI 48205"

There's a button in the top right corner of google maps of two chain links linked together. Just click on that and it will give you the link you want if mine isn't to the place you're talking about. I'm not so sure it is because I don't see any interesting cars in the driveway, but I do see a pretty trashy looking car filled back yard. But it's not as...dead?...looking as I figured it would be. If you zoom into street view, the roads are full of holes, there's no chalk outlines. Just kinda rough looking maybe, I dunno.

The idea is to have people live there and contribute $$$ to the local businesses, pay taxes, etc (i.e. have that shithole town grow).
