This story goes along with it.

Video is a little messy.

This video was taken from inside the cockpit of an A-10 by the pilot. It
was a night view.

What you see is from 9700 feet away (almost two miles).

Four terrorists are walking along a street with no clue that someone is
watching them....

from almost 2 miles away.

The A-10 fired a 30 mm cannon WITHOUT injuring the dog nearby who
escaped unharmed.

You can see the gun camera shake a bit as the pilot fires; then count
about 4 seconds for

the rounds to travel 2 miles. Every tenth round is a tracer, so the
bullets you actually

see are every tenth; they are getting hit with hundreds of rounds, but
the dog is unscathed.

Muzzle velocity on the 30mm cannon is 2430 feet per second.

The result is that four guys won't be blowing up women and children
anymore!

The dog, in the upper right, just safely gets the hell out of there.

Can anyone in the military confim that this story could be real, I mean fact wise? I was just wondering.

Link for those who want to see the footage. WARNING SORTA GRAPHIC

I think I fixed the link for whatever reason I have trouble with photobucket.

Doesn't sound like a 30mm. The rate at which that cannon fires rounds is astronomical, so much so that it slows the plane down when fired.

That video looks more like rotary wing letting loose with a smaller weapon. It sounds like a M2, but the quality is pretty poor, so I can't be sure. There is also a round counter on the camera (tied into the flight system) - the pilot only expends about 50 rounds total.

Definitely not a Hog. Either Apache or Cobra. Although I'm willing to bet the bank it's an Apache.

Yea I've seen one fire and WOW you can't even hear individual rounds. It's just so quick.

One of the guys could possibly have survived the first volley and it would be pretty inhumane to leave them there suffering. Better to just finish them off.

The Apache uses a single barrel autocannon capable of 625 rounds per second. The A10 uses a 3900 round per second, 7 barrel system. They can share ammunition, both build to 30x173mm rounds, but the GAU-8 in the A10 usually uses 4 AP and 1 HE ratio while the M230 tends to use more HE rounds.

Also, the usual range pilots try to use them are around 1200-1500yards. 2 miles is technically doable, the ballistic profile of the bullets will do tat range, but accuracy will be a bit of a problem.

This is what an A10 sounds like, completely different sound profile:

That's what 10k lb/ft of recoil sounds like.

Yep. I've heard that through people who have worked on it that the design of the FCC had to take into account the gun firing. I guess if it carried enough rounds and could fire them off for a long period of time, the plane would slow way down.

I'm assuming you mean rounds per minute, not second. A gun firing 3900 rounds per second would be absolutely insane.
