__WoW__Celeron 566's for $25!__

Reseller Rating

Umm looks kinda of inflated rating? But it may be true anyway. I suppose it is a hot deal if you have an old board that cant do 100mhz fsb. But I think lower end Druons are pretty slick deals.

Haha.. you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. These should work nicely with my MSI Flex Mobo's I picked up for a song on ebay. Thanks for the link🙂

Yup, these are especially good for classic P II (440BX) motherboards with coppermine support. I jumped in on the Celeron 566 deal at CompGeeks a few months ago. Can we spell overclocked to 850 at default voltage?

But, they would be a bit slow on most of the Intel all in one (i810/i810e) chipset boards. The board must enable selecting 100 MHz fsb even tho the chip is telling it 66 MHz. Or, You can get very deep and insulate or break off the appropriate pins so the board thinks the chip uses a 100 MHz fsb. (I dunno which ones, I always use a board that let's me choose fsb) (Google out the answer for yourself)

Much more cost effective than buying a "real" P III 850. (Pricewatch $110 delivered.)

Geez I remember 2 years ago , day after July 4th holiday , ordering one of these from Buy.com. They were sold out because they were selling them for such a hot price ( a deal everyone here on Antech was jumping on) ...the great price then was $159!

BadSweetums - any links you can share for overclocking one of these, I have had one for the past year and never bothered to overclock it.

It is sitting on a 440ZX/BX board and I am using an MSI MS-6905 Converter Board.

Buy.com had them on sale for like $100.50 and there was a $50 off $100 coupon going around so final price was around $55 shipped, and they ran 850 at default voltage, at that time it was a GREAT deal. Mine still purrs along at 850 no problems

Their reseller ratings look too good to be true. Glad that a senior member (Blain) posted this and not a junior, otherwise I would be more suspicious. I paid for 2, only 4$ shipping, good deal.

Awesome deal, however:

BE VERY CAREFULL & READ YOUR CONFORMATION EMAIL!!!!

I first had to change the cart to 1 cpu, it had 3 in there, even though I only went to site first time & clicked buy once. After changing the quantity, I checked out. Checkout does not show any info about purchase, just asks you for CC & shipping info. When my conformation email arrived, it showed I ordered 4 cpu's, not 1!!! wrote email and will call in a few minutes, but be warned!

UPDATE:

I called them up, super polite. Said no prob, appoligized for the prob. We'll see when the CC bill comes in as well as the product, but I think it will be fine. Still annoying that it happened in the first place, but nice that they were there on sat & fixed it.

Visegrip: Thanks for the warning. There was 2 cpus when I added it to the cart. A little too iffy for me. I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of getting them to change my CC charge.

Wow! I'd be all over this deal, if only it was still the year 2000...

//joking aside, I'm writing this from a Celeron 633 🙁

They seem to be sold out now.

I used to have a Celery 566@850, it was a good deal back then... a cB0 stepping that wasn't stable @ 850 till increased to 1.75V (from default of 1.5 or 1.6, can't remember). That was the last CPU I had that could run with a passive heatsink, very quiet in a case with only one big/slow fan under the PSU & a shroud to channel the air thru the heatsink.

Branded, Visegrip:

I purchased a combo from this guy almost two years ago and had a later problem with the motherboard while still under warranty. He replaced the mobo promptly. I've also spoken to him twice by phone. My brother has purchased from him and agrees he has been professional and polite.

At the time of my purchase I was unable to access his site on a Mac and yanked his page down, modified it and sent it back. He definitely is not a web wizard and apparently is having some problems with his shopping cart, but my gut says he's honest.

Oh, I'm still humming away at 850 mhz with no problems. Guess it's about time for a new system, though.

Looks like Proton saw this thread, now they are selling celeron 566->850 oc'd kits with fans & everything for 75$ instead of just the chip for 25$.

Mark Hannah Surplus has the 566 as well for $25.00. They have lots of other stuff on their site as well along with tons of different fans. You can email your order in or do what I do: call it in... Nice people to do biz with. 🙂
