Im tryin to network my friend's DSL connection...they have SBC DSL i think. uses Efficient PPOE or something....
I know how to network cablemodem connection, but not DSL...its weird, u have so sign-in each time u wanna use it and stuff....
theres 2 computers...how do i network them??? right now DSL is going into 'UPLINK' on hub...then each comp is hooked up to the hub i think....
can someone tell me how to do it and what settings to use...and if i need to install the DSL software on both comps?
and if i install ICS, do i enable it on the DSL network card, or on the server network card

im really lost

BestBuy has a D-Link Cable/DSL Router on sale after rebate for $29.99 (hurry up it is over tomorrow)

It will be better for your health to buy him one (let him take you out to dinner, it will cost him more).

Combining DSL, Hub, PPPOE, and ICS, can work, but it is always quirky at best.

Usually this is the story:

The best solution is to get a Cable/DSL Router. Even if you don't have a Network, you get hardware Firewall and independent PPPOE device.

You log on to the Router, in the PPPOE menu type username and password. Make sure PPPOE is checked. Set the router to obtain IP automatically (unless you have a static account).

As long as you don't switch off the DSL Modem, and the Router you are connected "forever" (the computer can be switched off). If you switch them off, when you switch them on again, it will take a minute, and the Router will automatically connect to the DSL ISP.

You can uninstall WinPOET and whatever else, the ISP dished you.

The Router's PPPOE capacity is independent from the Computer, and it keeps the connection alive.

Working through the Router in a DSL, connection should yield faster smoother Internet connection.

I have a similar set up at home, 2 boxes and DSL. I do not use a router and both boxes can be connected at the same time. I do not use ICS.

The PPPoE virtual adapter pulls the IP from my ISP, and my Nic is on a private IP addy, same set up on both boxes.

From the modem, its a crossover cable to the hub, then both computer NIC's into the hub.

Both boxes in the same workgroup, I just use HOST file for local name resolution, and Im off to the races.

Some DSL companies will allow two connections, some wont.
