Here's the system to be powered...

MB - Epox KT333 chipset
CPU - Overclocked MP 1800+ (Palomino core)
HDs - 80GB WD 7200 RPM & 10GB IBM 5400 RPM
Drives - Pioneer 16X DVD & Teac CD-RW
FD - 1
Fans - Two quiet 80mm & 40mm (5v video card)

Now to my choices...
PS #1 - +12 @ 12A, +5 @ 40A, +3.3 @ 28A
PS #2 - +12 @ 15A, +5 @ 30A, +3.3 @ 20A

Since the CPU will be OC'd, is PS #2 better with the 15A 12V, but lower 5 & 3.3... or PS #1 with the lower 12V but higher 5 & 3.3?

Thanks :D

what brands are you considering? ratings don't mean much unless on a high quality brand.

How is the overclock on that palamino? I have (and am replacing) an XP 1800+ Palamino and when I got up to 146Mhz FSB i slammed into a wall. The system wouldnt post no matter what I did. Even at like 8x146 it wouldnt boot. SOmething about that fsb speed. Just wondering if the MPs are better.

I left the brands out on purpose so that people wouldn't be swayed one way or the other based on brand name.
They are Antec #1 & HEC #2 :p

The Pally will run fine on a 166MHz FSB. It does 10x166 with little or no voltage bump... good cooling of course. :)

I believe your mb supplies your cpu via the 5V rail.
If the antec is a truepower I'd get that.
I'd personally buy a Fortron or Sparkle (better value, same quality).

I dont know that people are swayed by brand. Fact of the matter is, some brands are better than others.

Antec TruePowers have independent regulators so they can deliver full load on both 3.3V and 5V at the same time. So the ratings may not tell the full tale.

Antec TruePower: You want 40A on 5V and 28A on 3.3V? Sure, I can do that... I'll have to borrow some off the 12V line, but I can do it. Oh, now you want 12A on 12V and 28A on 3.3V? I can do both at once, gonna have to borrow from 5V, but I can do it.

HEC: Uhh, lemme get this straight, you want 30A on 5V and 20A on 3.3V? At the same time? I can't do that, bro... look at my label. See the "Combined 3.3V + 5V rating?" Those two lines come off one circuit, I can't supply full load to both at once.

Wow, I never knew that. Where do you learn that stuff?
