I have some pretty good stories from helping my father-in-law trouble-shoot his pc. My favorite is when the computer is "broken" because his wireless connection is weak/not available; "It's just not as fast as it used to be, I think the hard drive is going". I repeatedly have to tell my mother-in-law that she doesn't know enough about the computer to significantly damage it. The whole family thinks I'm some sort of super genius. I try to tell them, "No, I'm not that smart, it's just that you're incredibly du- errr... I mean yes, I am a genius".

Nah, all joking aside, they're older and I don't really expect them to have a clue what they're doing. I'm glad I'm able to help them. But for crying out loud, don't try to tell me whats wrong over the phone! My response is ALWAYS, "can you hold out till I can look at it?".

I hate "tech support" calls from family & friends. They think I can tell them exactly what to do to fix their problem over the phone.
I could probably give it a good shot if they knew what things were called.
