I'm buying some "Stooge Nyuk's" for a fan of theirs for Christmas. In general are the features better than the TV series?
Forgive my Stooge ignorance ;)

CURLY!!!!! Ya need a fat guy if you're gonna do comedy (Laurel & Hardy, Spade & Farley, heck even Penn & Teller)

Ug, Joe, don't bring him up.
Curly of course.

I've read that Curly and Shemp were brothers in real life, any truth to that?

Curly Shemp and Moe were the Horowitz brothers methinx

edit>> Usually the Curly incarnation is best, but sometimes Shemp gettin' slapped is pretty good

morkinva is right - Curly, Shemp and Moe were brothers in real life. Curly's real name was Jerome, Shemp's was Samuel, Moe's was Moses.

Blain, when you say "features", if you mean the full-length movies like The Three Stooges meet Hercules, they are crap. Stick to the 18-20 minute shorts (the ones they show on TV). Get the ones with Curly or Shemp as the third man, and avoid the ones with Joe (Joe Besser) and Curly Joe (Joe DeRita). When they started making the feature-length movies they were getting pretty old and they aren't as funny IMHO.

Definately Larry, Moe and Curly. Shemp was great too but none of the other third men could compete with Curly for the funniest slapstick.

Those are two good choices. The second tape has one of my favorites, "Playing the Ponies." The Stooges are running a small restaurant and Moe serves lunch to a customer. A small dog appears and starts growling at the customer.

Customer: "Why is that dog growling at me?"
Moe: "Oh, don't mind him. He's just mad 'cause you're eating off his plate."
