^_^ one more step towards cool/quiet system

Hello all, recently i have just replaced my 6600gt stock cooler with zalman vf700cu led. currently i'm using the low fan speed instead of high speed for the low fan's noise is close to silent, i love it. drop OCed load temp from 65c to around 50c, nice...(about 15c, also gives me a little room to oc)
right now i'm searching for a passive heatsink to replace my tiny mobo fan/hs. for a little thing like that, it's making way too much noises than necessary. anyone has any good suggestion to replace it?

ps: currently i'm having 6 fans in my system, going to replace them 1 by 1, first to kill off that mobo fan.

try the Zalman chipset cooler. forgot the model name, but it's the blue one. >__< look for it on mwave.com or newegg.com or something.

next is probably your PSU? just a guess.

hello, thx for the reply. i check out newegg for nb47J, there are a lot of people who complaint about that heatsink running too hot, i'm going to give my mobo a little voltage during oc, will that heatsink over heat with more voltages into the mobo?

If you want low mobo chipset temps, check to see if the Thermalright HR-05 or Jing-Ting Force coolers fit.

i think i'm going to go with ZALMAN ZM-NB47J, do you guys think i'm going to have heating problem when i kick in more voltage to the mobo?

the chipset probably will get hot, especially if u undervolted your zalman cooler. The cooler would provide some airflow over the NB47J, but since its undervolted, there's gonna be less air blowing over it. I have an a8n-sli deluxe w/ the newer chipset cooler, undervolted to 5v and it keeps the temps at 37C idle and 39C load. I touched the cooler and its pretty hot. I don't suggest that you use the nb47J and pump more voltage into the chipset. You could look into some active coolers, such as the JingTing (its pricey, but probably better suited for you than the NB47J) or other suggestions from other posters. Hope this helps you.

i wish there is a way to tell how my chipset temps are doing. there are 3 temps reported by the speedfan that makes sense. i figured out 2 of them(cpu and hdd), i got a temp1 in there that i have no idea what it is. it goes from 23c to 33c, i unplug my mobo's fan to wait a while till the chipset gets hot, there is no sign of change in temp1. could anyone suggest something to monitor mobo temp, and also could anyone take a guess what my temp1 is referring to?

You're gonna have to go with a thin cooler if you have SLI going. If not, you can move 6600GT to 2nd PCIe X16 slot and use it down there, and get something like a Thermalright HR-05 (as big as possible for amount of space you have). However, if you do have SLi or prefer to keep 6600GT on top PCIe (or it could be mobo limitation), then the JingTing ChipForce would do fine even though it costs a lot of money.

thank you for your suggestion, i have decided to go with ZALMAN ZM-NB47J for it's price and performance. also i don't think i'm going to have a problem with fitting if i'm going with something as small as the zalman mobo cooler. thanks anyway.

Your computer should be quieter as soon as you install the Zalman passive sink. However, if it overheats, you'll have to end up buying a 40 mm and supergluing it onto Zalman.
