I am about to throw some money into my car for once instead of my computer and I was wondering what the best things to do would be. I want to spend about 1500-2000, purely performance. Definately exhaust. Not sure what else to do...

What do you recommend???

I don't really know what sort of aftermarket bolt ons they make for the explorer, but don't waste your money for an exhaust.

try looking for a good supercharger instead.

Where's our resident auto guru? I'd have thought that NFS4 would have posted in this thread by now ;)

I disagree lupin, on most cars out of the factory today the exhaust is a great first step for performance. I have no idea what you'd do to soup up an exploder though......some giggle gas and some stiffer shocks perhaps? :)

Exhaust is a must. The more air you can get into and get out of your engine, the faster it will run. I think.

...... tick tock.... tick tock...... waiting for NFS4..... tick tock.....

Have to agree with better exhaust.Made a diff on my 92 F150@351 V8.
Maybe a Computer chip upgrade?
Better intake air flow K&N.
Maybe a RV cam.

Just have to look around.
Hav fun.

You can do almost all of the mods I have done to my Ranger to your Explorer, as they share the same drivetrain, as well as many other common components.

Yeah dude, I got this friend who has a '72 chevy truck, black, lowered, super powerful. Hes always telling me all this gibberish to get in my car. Its like if I went up to him and said "You need a 1.1ghz tbird, some cas-2 pc133 ddr, a geforce ultra, and a kt7 raid....

What year Ford Explorer do you have?

V-8 Powered Explorers can be modded with Vortech Superchargers. As for 6-cylinders...I'm guessing you could increase the displacement. There really isn't much you can do for the exhaust. What I mean is, exhaust upgrade for trucks aren't nearly as effective as upgrading your exhausts in a car.

Oh...don't forget. Ford+Performance=Saleen.

Lets see..

Headers: $450
Cat-back: $225
Ignition: $350
Superchip: $225

I better stop there. I am starting to get depressed. ;)

Seriously, I have spent about $2500 on upgrades.

I'm going to spend another grand sometime in the next year to get it re-geared (4.10) and install a limited-slip differential up front.

Go with a K&N filter system, a Cat back exhaust system and a chip. Should be well within your budget.
