i'm hoping Google releases a way to turn off encryption. XDA got a boot.img that wipes the phoen for a fresh install and the read/write test went up. Not sure if that means real world usage on a daily basis but it'd be interesting.

Stock image is already available. You can unlock boot loader and flash the custom boot image. Any updates turn encryption back on so getting it off will require flashing the latest image without the boot.img

Just handled a Nexus 6 and Note 4 at T-Mobile. The Nexus 6 feels more like a mini tablet versus the Note 4 which is of course a huge phone. But still a phone.

My take away from reviews and what you guys are saying is that the Nexus 6 wins with pure Android and double facing speakers. The Note 4 wins on battery life, screen, and being noticeably smaller, while still huge at the same time.

Ambient Display does not work if you disable your lock screen. So basically, the only thing it does is pulse your lock screen notifications. As soon as you touch the pulsing notification you're at your lock screen.

Seeing some of the people on xda got their devices before their expected date when they ordered after me by a week, I complained to Motorola. They gave me $50 in accessories. Does anyone know if the sol jbl mini ear buds work in any phone? Not sure what else to get. Maybe an extra turbo charger.

Got to play with one more and I have to say - I like it a lot. However, I'm still leaning toward keeping my Note 4.

- It is definitely larger and though it's "not much more" compared to the Note 4, when you reset your scale by comparing it in your hand to a normal 5" phone, you realize just how large the phone is.
- Display is definitely dimmer - not an issue in-store, but I do wonder how it'll affect outdoor visibility
- The extra real estate is really noticeable and I wish the Note 4 had a touch larger screen.
- The build is nice - everything is very tight. However, the "metal" frame feels and looks like plastic. It feels like a very well put together plastic phone, though not what I'd call premium. The asymmetric design doesn't bother me at all and I'd like to see Samsung try their hand at a buttonless design like LG and Motorola that minimizes bezels.
- The side buttons for volume are terribly placed - even just playing around with the phone, I accidentally hit them several times.
- Sound is massively better than the Note 4- no comparison

The biggest thing for me is reported battery life. I run everything on (bluetooth, wifi, data, high accuracy location, Google Now, constant syncing) and the Note 4 barely gets me through my full day. A phone that does noticeably less is too much of a negative to me. Equivalent or very slightly less would have been good enough. I have no desire to disable functionality to get good battery life.

The camera in low light conditions is also an area I don't want to go backwards as the Note 4 is the first Android phone I've had where low light is good enough. I don't want to go back to depending on my wife's iPhone in those conditions.

So a very interesting phone - I'd 100% get it if it had the display and camera quality along with the battery life of the Note 4.

Something about the display bothered me. It's not brightness or color accuracy, although they could certainly have been better. It felt.. unstable. (for the lack of words to describe it) A little bit of shifting, jitters, or maybe it's the screen door effect? I could not put a finger to it but it did not give me confidence.

Speaker sounds as good as it gets from a smartphone.

Camera was.. OK.

I did not feel the metal side on both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, either. That is not at all a problem but the phone collecting grease is.

My local Sprint has two. I went to purchase them outright, but they wouldn't sell them to me without a Sprint line activation for each phone. I considered just activating a number for a month, and then switching over to AT&T, but the Sprint guy said that I wouldn't be able to do that. He added that it will only work on the Sprint network because it's serial number based. He also said Nexus 6's sold at Verizon are the same way.

Is that accurate???

Nope. Not accurate at all. It's all one phone for all carriers. You can sign up for the prepaid plan at t mobile, buy phone outright. You will pay $20 for each sim card and then the first month of prepaid service. After that you cancel your prepaid plan. Keep the phone and get a new nano SIM from Verizon but you must make sure you have a Verizon phone that you can use to activate that new Verizon nano SIM. They can try in store but it will not let them check out because their computer won't recognize the nexus 6 imei. That's why I got a nano to micro adapter and will be activating my SIM through my HTC one before placing it in the nexus 6.

ATT is SIM LOCKED - so far, no one knows about the SPRINT version.

Here's an article on teh challenges of getting phones working on CDMA networks Sprint/Verizon

Just got the Nexus 6 yesterday so have had it for a full 24 hours now. Just an awesome device, screen is gorgeous. Definitely taking some time to get used to the size, I hated it at first but enjoy it now. It's my work phone, personal being iPhone 6 4.7". However, if I get sent a Note Edge like I'm hoping I'll probably swap for that. This phone being so large makes it a pain to carry two devices at the same time.

Edit: Was using a Moto X (2014) before this and this is an improvement in every way. If they had the same display quality (but shrunken), camera, performance in the Moto X then it would of been the perfect android phone.

FYI the Nexus 6 from T-Mobile is not carrier unlocked, it is locked to T-Mobile. Apparently I've heard the only truly unlocked models are those from the Play Store and Motorola's website. Unfortunate if true.

People on xda have a t mobile edition and it works with a activated Verizon SIM.

Have you tried it on yours? That's lame if true.

A guy on the Android Central forums replied... Saying that he bought a N6 from Sprint today, signed up for a plan, went out the door and swapped in his Verizon sim without issue.

I doubt that any of them are locked, unless they are sold on contract.

At any rate, I ordered two through T-Mobile today. 🙂

Got my AT&T N6 up and running. Before I did anything, removed SIM, unlocked boot loader and rooted, then went through the set up. Downloaded zero carrier bloat, though it did already have AT&T boot animation, ringtones, and logo on the back. Took care of animation and ringtones in about 3 minutes with ES File Explorer. The logo looks to be easy to remove.

Love the screen so far. Coming from a Note 2, everything feels so smooth and snappy. I haven't used it much yet so not sure on battery, but initial impression is good. Speakers are phenomenal (for a phone). Camera seems decent, still playing with the options and modes.

Only issue I've seen so far is an occasional speaker pop when I turn the screen on. Going to have to figure that one out.

I have not, going by what the sales person told me. They don't always know what they're talking about, but he seemed pretty confident and quick to answer when I asked.

he was talking out of his ass. I have a tmobile 64gb nexus 6 and it has worked with ATT and international sims.

The Google Nexus 6 is sold unlocked. No additional steps are required.

yet another reason why tmobile rocks.

Played with it a bit at the AT&T store. It felt fast. Much faster than my OnePlus One. Its likely that ART and Lollipop make everything feel buttery smooth. Not sure what the slowness is that everyone's describing.

Yeah, the screen is a bit dim, and with AMOLED screens, they look terrible at an angle. If I look at my friend using his N6, it looks dim and you get that purplish glow.

The bezels aren't bad, but the phone is definitely too big for my taste. Its hard to hold and use one handed for sure even compared to my OnePlus One which doesn't have the smallest bezels. Also, it's annoying that they went with Motorola's signature right sided volume rockers. Just feels so unnatural to me.

Cool.

So my dad has the Note 4, and he agreed to switch phones for a day as we both wanted to see how the other phone was. I ended up with the same 4 hours and change of screen on time with 23% battery left, almost identical to what I experienced with the Nexus 6. I do like how the Note 4 feels in hand better than the Nexus, but the screen size difference is definitely noticeable.

Well it's the 24th and Motorola told me to expect my device to ship today. I've not gotten an email from them about anything.

Weird, if it does ship today I can expect to at least have it by Friday. Users on xda said it took 2 days from China once it was shipped.

iFixit, has a teardown.

What I found interesting is this picture (in red):

Final confirmation for the Moto S => Nexus 6 "transformation"?

What are we seeing there other than a LED?

I think at this point we know this is the last minute Nexus. They keep calling the Nexus 9 the one "Made for Lollipop" for a reason-out of the two it was.

The big story now is what happened to Android Silver program that it crashed and burned so hard that they had to do this last minute trick instead?
