9C to TJunctionMax

Just a note that you perhaps shouldn't be too afraid of thermal limits. Temps here reached 90F ambient, and my E2140s @ 3.2Ghz, 1.425v (BIOS) are hitting 9C to TJMax, and still going strong. According to CoreTemp 0.96, that's 91C.

That's risky. But for a cpu that cheap, it doesn't really matter :laugh:. Did you managed to cross the Tjunction?

But i've seen how hot OEM systems' CPUs run...they use crappy heatsinks that get very hot under load & yet i never see dead CPUs.

Personally i think voltage is a much worse enemy for CPUs than heat.

yea my CPU got to about 72C today when my ambient temps got to about 90-95C...
i just lowered my vcore and FSB back to 1.250 and 3.2ghz

damn i'm sweating too

what max volts have you had it up to? Also, what are you cooling the case & cpu with? Maybe stop folding for a few hours & clean the case out & reseat the HSFs. heheheh

aka NYC this past saturday/sunday...
it was ridiculously hot and humid.

thank god my internet got DC and my dual folding SMP clients ended while i was away from home for 2 days or else temps woulda go to about 75-80C load

Hmm. Hit about 95F ambient today and I was encoding an xvid and temps didn't even reach 60C on my E2180 @3.2ghz. It was hot as hell in the room, too.

Max volts is 1.425v (BIOS). I'm using a Hyper TX2 cooler, and a CM 330 Elite case with the built-in rear exhaust fan. Both case sides are off as well. The case and fans are clean with no dust. I reseated the cooler twice when I built the thing, no noticable change in temps.

I'm getting an AC in on weds, so this little experiment is going to be over then.

AC is installed, temps are now 22C to TJMax. So I guess the experiment to push high temps is over. At least now I can safely burn DVDs again, I was worried about burning out the laser diode from the high temps I had before.

Did you have to raise the voltage as it got hotter? I remember when I did temperature testing that the breakdown region would change as the temperature increased, which would mean that the switching voltages would change depending on the temperature. I can't remember if the region change was proportional or inversely proportional to temperature; but based on what I remember from the changes of energy regions (basic quantum physics) with temperature the change should be proportional. But then I haven't done this work for 6 years or so, and I am a little fuzzy on the theory now.
