most banks i believe won't let you do that pay to the order thing w/o the person it was originally written to. that and a valid id. it'd work if you added your cat to your account tho.

Cash it in your ATM, they never pay attention. I've cashed a bunch of weird checks that way.

I got a credit card once a while back in the mail a while back.... when I called the company and told them there was a mistake, I spent about ten minutes or so being told that it was valid, it wasn't until they saw the SS number was mine... then they wouldn't reissue a card with my name on it.... told me I had bad credit... go fig
