Mine was installed last Friday -- ordered online a few days earlier. This has to be one of the sweetest deals every posted!

About the only thing I wish it had was some kind of indicator about how much drive space is left (maybe its there and I just haven't found it yet).

Hey can anyone here still get the deal to work? I tired to order and the screen comes up showing it for $99 but as soon as I log-in it only offers it for $199.

Nevermind, I was clicking the wrong place.

Its per receiver, but from what I understand if you have two Directivos then you just pay the second receiver fee instead of the second receiver fee plus DVR fee.

The $4.99 DVR fee is per location/address. Two, three DirecTivos, one $4.99 fee. The $4.99 additional receiver fee is per receiver, regardless of type.

OK! You guys did it...you convinced me. I returned the Replay today and ordered the DTivo...again. I can't remember the last time I was this indecisive about electronics. This is the third one. Anyhoo my fiancee had bought me the original one (Philips 7000) for close to $300 from BeastBuy so you guys saved us around $200 all told (not counting shipping to return the Replay :p ). Now I might get the installer to get both inputs connected too so that I can do the watch one, record the other thingy.

I hate you...and love you.

Oh, and FYI, Amazon is having a sale on the Hacking Tivo book which is supposed to be very good. Don;t know if it applies to DTivo's though.

Crap, can't link it without having my personal info shown...sorry.

You should, without question, have the installer connect both the inputs to the dish. If you need more than one receiver installed, they will give you a multiswitch as part of the deal.

There is no way, that I'm aware of, to determine how much disk space remains. What I do is allow the Tivo to record suggestions. Adding up the time those suggestions are using gives you an idea of how much disk space remains. There may be a bit more space available than that, but it gives you rough idea of the remaining space.

couple of quesitons, cuse im getting DirecTV now, and I would actually like a second tivo...

1) is this phillips unit any better or worse?

2) I have 1 receiver and one Tivo on order... the tivo itself is a receiver right? I only want a total of 2 receivers, each with tivo... can i just replace my plain receiver with the tivo unit (i know i need a second cable run). What then happens to my old receiver, and how do i handle this with DTV, i dont wanna get nailed for another $5 a month for the tivo counting as a 3rd reciever or something

3) I know that bitrate / bandwidth offered to each channel varries. This means to me that 35 hours, will probably be more like 20 hours. can anyone give me an idea if they know how much space the following type of shows would take..

Prime time network shows) ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX

Prime time calbe) FX/TBS/USA/

Premium Encore/HBO/Cinimax

it really is about 35 or more per 40gb's

some locals run a bit more per hour but not many..... and not much ussually...

go to avs forums and see how easy it is to add 130 or 260 more hours :)

1) The Philips Unit is exactly the same as the Hughes one ... just rebadged. I actually got the Philips one when I ordered through Directv.
2) You call DTV and get them to cancel you subscription on the 3rd receiver... you can then sell the receiver or activate it at another time.
3) Like others have said, it varies ... for locals depending on where you live, best thing to do is upgrade the hard drive! :)
