99 pack of beer

Sigh, I remember buck a beer. Stupid greedy government.

Why not just buy a keg at that point?

Kegs just aren't cheaper than cans, for whatever reason. We did an analysis of this when I was in the military. It wasn't worth buying a keg, as it was more expensive per ounce than everyone buying 12 packs.

Also, am I the only person annoyed with the headline? They didn't "invent" a 99 pack. I can't say that in my heavy drinking days I wouldn't have liked this though! There was a small Mexican bar that offered $0.50 Lone Star cans on the weekend. That is where I learned most of my Spanish!

Fair enough. Things are a bit different up here.

Well, it didn't help that we were in a stat that outlawed any alcohol containers over 32oz, and the only place to buy kegs were on base. So, the price could have been inflated, as I remembered kegs being much cheaper when I was 17-18.

Plus, a lot of beer just doesn't come in kegs. At least, not retail.

So... anyone here in Austin wanna see if we can knock this out in one sitting?

Gotta relive those college memories some how

you usually you have to return the empty keg.
What's the problem there?

They typically have a $40-50 deposit... The kegs are owned by the breweries...they cost them that kind of money...it's not ridiculous to charge $40-50 because of the engineering and metal involved in manufacturing them. Return it and get your deposit back.

I've not had time to brew lately and threw a party last week. I got a keg of Sam Adams Octoberfest. I'm still enjoying it because a lot of people brought hard liquor to the party. 🙂

I'm lazy, If I don't have to make a special trip to return a keg the better.

Alkymest and I once smashed one of those cases down in one evening, fucked all your mothers, then posted about it.

It was epic!

Not to be outdone, the Sazerac company announced their plans to release 99-packs of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. If kids are going to be poisoning themselves with stupid stunts, we want in!

How much does a keg typically go for nowadays? Say a keg of bud? I remember in my college days dropping a $50 deposit for the hardware and a keg of bud light running about $90-$100. Is that about right still?

whoa, really? Keg of Bud was something like $60 back when I was banging.

"premium," Which was always either Newcastle or Honey Brown, was ~$80.

Most I ever paid for a keg was for my 21st, a keg of Rogue Shakespeare Stout, and that was $120.

Hmm, maybe I'm misquoting or we always got ripped off as college kids. I do remember the good stuff being quite a bit more, about $120 sounds accurate.

Here it was like $80 (plus deposit) for a half keg of Bud Light. That is around 85 beers. Not even close to the amount you could get in cans. That price also included ice, bucket, and a pump tap.

I could also be misremembering. There is a fair amount of time, and a not insignificant amount of beer between then and now....
