Stay far far away from the original Xbox unless you can verify it's a Jasper unit before buying. The others are exploding deathtraps that will kill a pet or small child when you least expect it *

This close to the holidays it might make more sense to pick up a brand new model with 1-year warranty, fresh controller, new games.

* slight exaggeration.

My Falcon is still going strong, they aren't that bad, but I agree Jasper would be better. You sure as hell don't want a launch box.

The launch units didn't have hdmi so you can easily spot a launch. I don't any still exist though. I bought an home model (second model) after my launch unit died. RROD twice but both incidents were covered under warranty. I believe I still have a repaired second model and it still works.

Anything before Jasper was luck of the draw, and more likely than not the box is going to RROD. No point chancing it with pre-jasper when jaspers are as cheap these days anyway.

I had a launch model, it RROD'd. Got it 'fixed' (read: MS swapped it under the warranty) the replacement is still going strong.

My guess is if it hasn't RROD yet, it's probably a decent unit.

Yes, if your Falcon survived this long it probably wasn't one of the doomed ones, but with Gamestop, eBay, CL etc. you also have to worry about a unit that did RROD and was "fixed" by the owner.

Unless you can get a cheap extended warranty from someone like SquareTrade to go with your used 360, that home repair might last just past the return window.

Also, if you want wi-fi the fats did not have it built-in and normal $10 USB adapters for PCs will not work.
