The "free" thing might have had to do with the electronics purchase. I picked up a Samsung Netbook a week or so ago from amazon, so that might have been it. So maybe I'll try downloading 3 more bucks worth of whatever.

When I downloaded this set I had a problem with a "corrupted" 5th symphony (first in download list). I fiddled with the downloader, clearing all the one that were OK and retrying that title and it worked just fine. Then played a few pieces and they were all great.

Huh? These are regular ol' mp3s. You can use any music player to play them.

There is an option with the downloader to import them into iTunes once downloading is complete. I don't care for this and simply unchecked this option. AFAIK, iTunes isn't required at all.

I don't think you need to use the Amazon downloader. I've purchased MP3s from them before (using the 5$ free I got from getting a Blu-Ray player) and I was able to download my songs with a right click save as.

That's nice to know, as I'm going to start using Amazon more for my MP3 purchases. However, I'd hate to "Save As..." 99 times in this case. :)

I understand you can use any music player but Itunes automatically loaded when I went to download the full album. I had no choice but to use it.

Same here. But you'll notice that in your My Music folder a copy of the downloaded music in the Amazon MP3 folder as well as where you keep your iTunes folder.

More "free stuff":

There's an album: "the very best of naxos" that's totally free for download.
I saw an album by Brian Eno: "Neroli" that was .99. Since I still had 1.01 left in my credits from, I suppose, that promotion, I downloaded that too. The album goes for around 13 bucks if you want the same piece in cd.
There are numerous songs and classical pieces that seem to be entirely free if you do a search based on lowest price.
There is a section in digital dowloads called "amazon shorts". They have a number of short works of literature totally free. goes in the digital locker and then you can download it into pdf or even html format I think.

Just found out that mine isn't done downloading yet. Oops.

Edit: #'s 31-46 come up as "not available- contact customer service" - wtf??

Weird. We ordered about the same time yesterday and I downloaded all of them right aftered I ordered.

I think my internet connection was interrupted while in the middle of downloading-- I emailed customer support and they reset so I could download them again.:)

Oddly enough, when I use Firefox to d/l, it gives me an Amazon MP3 file. When I use Chrome, it gives me a straight-up MP3.

It gets even better. When downloading one of the freebies in the electronic section I noticed at the bottom a ribbon of items that were popular with the buyers of that "free" item. There were many more free albums. I've downloaded 10 more albums and it seems there are still many more. There are even songs from Bing Crosby and other famous singers along with new alternative rock albums and lots of "samplers".

I am pretty sure the firewall at my work is what caused my initial problem. I emailed Amazon support and he reactivated my download so I can download the all the files again. The bad thing when they do this is you have to download each file seperately versus the entire album like you can the first time using the Amazon downloader. What fun that was!

This ends up being a great starter set. I am not sure why people are against paying $8 bucks for this. There are probably more organized sets for around the same, but they usually have less tracks and don't come from a good selection of orchestras.

I also bought some of the $5 albums. That sale is still going. I got Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns. And A Fine Frenzy - One Cell In The Sea. I would have probably skipped the latter if it wasn't for sale. Now I am glad I bought it.

Listening to only one movement of a symphony is like only reading one chapter of a book. Buy albums containing entire pieces and you'll get more out of the music.

It's 8 bucks. Call it a sampler.
Completely awesome for free.
Hot deal for 2 bucks.
In no way should you feel ripped for 8.

I can't believe people can't comprehend this.

That's a bad analogy. It may be more like reading one book in a series or watching one act of a play.
