Well, I took the plunge. Picked up an MSI KT3 Ultra with my order as well...together, they were about $193 shipped 2nd day delivery. Not bad.

I remember McGlen micro! They has 21inch monitors rediculously cheap and didn't honor their price, this was right after the buy.com monitor fiasco. Anyone else remember it? I all of us ended up getting a $20 coupon or something out of it.

Where did you guys get Zeus components from? From the link it looks like this RAM is from Viking Memory. In my dealing with Viking, their memory has been quite stable at marked speeds but doesn't perform beyond spec. At $100 this is worth it. I wonder what the aluminum heat spreaders look like.

EDIT: Blah, nevermind. It's clear as day and I overlooked the label.

Reseller Ratings are so so.

There are lot of complaints about DOA items, but they seem to be good at RMAs. You make the call.

I've purchased "Zeus" memory from McGlen off and on for nearly 3 years and have never had a problem with the memory or service. Shipping has always been prompt and on the one occasion I wanted to exchange some memory (for a larger size), it was handled without any quibbles other than I had to pay for return shipping which was fair. The memory has always run according to spec, but doubt that it would OC.

Regarding the memory, "Zeus" is merely branded generic memory. The chips will match on the DIMM but quite likely brands that you have never seen before (Marica, FS, etc.). Maybe the reason for the aluminum spreader. My suspicion is that it is excess capacity from major chipmakers that is being dumped on the spot market. Memory fabs are fairly expensive to build so these aren't being cooked in someone's garage. This strategy allows the majors to protect margin on their own branded memory and also helps deflect any criticism from other chipmakers about dumping.

I forgot to mention that I got my 512 meg stick and KT3 2 days after ordering. Talk about fast! Anyways, the heatspreader is pink! I haven't attepted to remove it to see what kind of chips it has, although I'm tempted. I should be getting my case & PSU for this system today, so hopefully tonight or tomorrow night I'll be able to report on how well this memory performs.

BTW, it's up to $118 now! :Q

:frown: Sorry, but mcglen.com a.k.a access micro is a horrible place to purchase from. I have had my worst online shopping experience with them. I recently purchased two sticks of 256M PC2100 Zeus memory from them. Both sticks were completely dead! I tried them on three different systems and none would post with this memory. I processed an RMA to get my money back and instead, they promptly sent me two more sticks. It took over two months, dozens of emails and phone calls to finally get my money back. By the way, the chip brand was NEC. When I first got the memory, I thought "cool, made in Japan - has to be good". Wrong!

For decently-priced memory, I've been real pleased with Mushkin. Excellent customer service, prompt shipping and weekend specials. I recently bought two 512M PC2100 sticks for $73 each - with lifetime warranty. Chip brand seems to be some no-named brand. But the memory works perfectly and is rock solid. I have one stick in my ECS K7S5A and another in my Epox 8KHA+.
