Okay, been looking over the sticky here about modding a video card, identifying my card.
It is a true Ati built 9800 256/128 and does have Samsung memory on it, the guide says 9800's with samsung memory have a 360 core, mine has a 350.
Is guide saying "all" with samsung has a 360, or there are both 350/360 cores with samsung?

Update, i spose never mind, i found it says forget trying to mod a 350 core, so guess it doesnt matter anyway

Just because it's a R350 core doesn't mean it's a bad card. See how far you can overclock it....it could possibly hit XT speeds. If it can OC to XT speeds, then what exactly have you lost by not being able to mod it?

Taking advantage of faster shaders that only work for the 360 core.

How do you know you have a 350 core?

Just overclock it, I flashed mine and it didn't make any performance increase so I flashed it back. If you can hit XT speeds easily than you should buy a vga silencer and overclock it even more :D

Hold on a sec, doesn't the 9600-Series have RV350 cores? Cause my 9600 Pro is identified as an RV350 in ATI-Tool

He is talking about 9800 not 9600.

And ATItool only reports what is in the BIOS. So, just because ATItool or any other utility tells you that you have an R350 on your 9800 does not mean that you do.

Yeah, it reported mine as 350 before I flashed it, even though it was really an 360.

The easiest way to tell is just to take off the HSF and look. It will be imprinted right on the core. The other method is by memory and serial number.

BTW overclock it before you buy a VGA silencer. My R350 did not OC well to begin with and I bought an ATI silencer hoping for better OC and it didn't improve much. Got mine to 400/351 before I noticed artifacting in doom 3 w/vga silencer.

Lost nothing, just throwing around idea's and trying to decipher exactly what is what with this card.
Its a 350, i looked. and also it will hit XT speeds and seems stable for what i ran it. But i think till a game i am trying to play needs more horsepower than what the card is putting out, ill just leave it as is.
